New baby in the house ....

We recently got a new addition to the family which is brilliant, but has been an absolute disaster to my training schedule. I currently need to train for my first Sani2c but somehow there is just simply never time. I have now reverted to the IDT at 04h00 in the morning which seems to be the only time when there are some peace in the house but this means I am severely lacking sleep.

Any advice out there please as I cannot be the first person to go through this.

Hey man,

It'll get worse before it gets better. Unfortunately.

We all went through this, and you MUST fit in with their schedule whilst also allowing your OH to carry on with a semblance of a normal life.

In essence, it's a lot easier to fit in several HIIT sessions (not necessarily on the bike) using alternative exercises (calisthenics, functional bodyweight training etc) in order to get in enough cross training. It may not mean cycling, but it's still exercise. You may find that you're only able to cycle once or twice a week, in the morning or on the weekends. Take it when you can, but not at the expense of the most important thing - your family.

So sorry bro, there's nothing you can "do" to make it better - you need to adapt to the changes, and maybe change up your exercise regimen. It does get better...

Teach the rugrat to go sleep next to the trainer - worked for me on the second one - never tried it on the first one.... wish I had.

I was in the same boat with a new little one and now we have number two on the way which is going to complicate things alot.

I stopped exercising in the week due to time but as the first one grew, slept throught the night mostly, walking, googling and becoming a little personality indecided to try exercising in the week.

The mornings are a no no so i forced myself to try in the afternoons. I pick up my baby girl from crèche, wuickly feed the dog, rush into some exercise clothes and klap a fast 30 minute workout consisting mainly of stability ball ab workouts and legs. All this while the little one either attempts to do it woth me, play with her toys or warched cbeebies.

So far i have managed to get in 2-3 times in the week which is great. It really helps when they get a little older. Mine first is now 22 months.

Hang in there dude, you will find what works for you.

We've all been thru that.Having said that, those were the times I was at my strongest.

You just got to adapt.

I had a set of twins on my plate so found the best time to ride was from 4am onwards. You probably going to be awake anyway so just learn to ride at those times.

Get in a group of guys who have kids. They will also be keen to get riding done early and get home.

It's a habit that hasn't changed for me.

If you want to stay married you will learn to get cycling done early in the morning and be back home to the wife and kids.

Man its just so hard both for you and the wife - in my case i was the wife

Bottom line is there will be many many Sani's to come but once this time has passed it will be gone forever - hallaloojah i say

Learn to adapt and baby will soon find a routine that will work for all of you!! It passes by in the blink of an eye - mine is now 10 and enjoys up to 40km rides with us and I struggle to keep up with him

Wait for the thread - what to do with your parents when you want to ride but they are holding you back
