On that stuff...

Momentum,

and screaming "Track" like a banshee. or "On your right" very politely  :whistling:

Cause on that stuff if you stop you are toast and where you stop is critical

I think I'm a bit like the OP at the Sabie Classic this year all and sundry passed me on the Mamba Switchback climb. It takes me forever to complete the climb up to the hut but I knew that once we hit the downhills I could make up a bit of time. I generally don't ask for track unless the rider is walking and I seldom have issues with other riders. Whether they have issues with me I wouldn't know!

why are they walking down a perfectly good gravel road?

Why would anyone walk that? That is a "walk in the park"

This is the issue I believe the OP was talking about. However in the vid the walkers were at least trying to get off the line. His issue would be with those that don't and the throw a hissy fit when he does come through.

In that vid I would probably have chosen the off line and just bombed it. On a hard tail it would be a breeze, not to mention on a dualie.

To be fair a large percentage of the field walk this section so these guys weren't on their own and to be honest I was quite surprised to see anyone riding it. This might be because at that stage I'm at the back of the field and the point that I was trying to make was that there is no issue where I ride about people being passed on a difficult part of he track. No hissy fits at all in fact quite a few were cheering me on, unfortunately the GoPro doesn't pick that up.

As for taking the right hand line and bombing down on a hard tail, I'd love to watch you do that and don't worry if you get it wrong they always have a first aid team stationed at the bottom.

Yes it was quite something - I wore her down on the hill with my constant rasping and wheezing and when she hesitated to reach for her waterbottle I lost control of my bike and slid past her dangerously close to washing out the front wheel as we went into the downhill. I may have swerved in front of her causing her to fall but I didn't look back to check.

Exhilarating.

I am also expert at being overtaken although if you're behind me you must be having a bad day because I generally start at the back of the slowest bunch and work my way down the field from there.

But if you are behind me - please don't yell "track" while, with both feet unclipped, I'm slithering down a muddy slope towards what feels like my doom. I assure you I'm as anxious about having you behind me as you are frustrated by the sight of me grinding along.

You are clearly focusing too much on your Mamillian Frontal Cortex and not enough on your Reptilian Limbic System. A good psychologist I know will confirm this - pass only under the influence of adrenalin! Or so I've been told.

I've been overtaken by you in a race before Thor - I only started an hour before you did and you told me not to let anyone else through.

'twas not I, good sir. I would never stand for such impedance! :)

Apparently Cavendish shouts "Track" at Marcel Kittel and Andre Griepel as he passes them to win a stage ;-)
