Some parents have no sense.

A few days ago, I spotted a guy, his child and his dogs on a cycle path (at least there was some intelligence).

The guy was riding a kid's bike (probably a 24inch), being towed by 3 dogs and his toddler was sitting on his shoulders. No helmets.

I'm sure she was having a ball, but dogs are so unpredictable, one cat on the side of a road, or a piece of chicken bone tossed out of a car window and they are going down in a pile of flesh and bones. I shudder to think of that little girl's injuries falling from shoulder height.

That would have made a great pic to circulate on social media...

Seriously, parents like that should be accused of child abuse. I know a boy who fell from dad's Jeep (not even going fast) at the age of 6, left him mentally handicapped for the rest of his life.

If you, as a parent, cannot think far enough to realize the consequences of your actions, you shouldn't be one.

Some people have no idea when they ride bikes with dogs, saw a lady riding with her dog and leash tied to her handlebars, I wanted to flag her down but from past experience I've learnt people that blasé generally don't take kindly to advice givers.

My brother in law used to have two huskies that he would harness up and let them tow his bike around for exercise. I think it was about ten days before he ended up in a pile of pain and injury.

I used to let my dog pull me in my skateboard until one day outta nowhere…cat ! He crossed in front of me while we were going hella fast, I went over the leash and slammed into him. We both lay on the ground for quite a while before getting up. I shudder to think what would have happened if I had a kid on my shoulders…reckless…

One man's dangerous is another man's fun.

I'm all for making life safe but we have to draw a line between safe and sanitising all the fun out of life.

My husband used to do that with his German Shepherd. . But Aaron was a highly trained shepherd so it never ended up in injury.

I have to agree with you.. we all survived our childhood and we can all say we had a jol.

I am not saying parents should be completely moronic, but too many kids these days are growing up wrapped in cotton wool.

If we aren't careful there will be a few generations with no stories to tell their kids.

How many kids get injured on jungle gyms?

How many kids get hurt climbing in trees?

Should parents refuse their kids to play on/in them in fear of what MIGHT happen and then be labeled as a bad parent?

Life is a risk. You can try and protect them as much as you like but the risk is there that one day your boy/girl slips and hits his/her head and that can leave them mentally handicapped or dead.

She would have further to fall if he was walking with her on his shoulders, should she wear a helmet then too? Let's be reasonable folks

I laugh when I see threads like this,

I'm torn between I don't want my kids to get hurt, but as a naughty little **** some of my wounds and clever ideas I survived perfectly

When I was five ran straight forehead first into steel frame of the bathroom door playing catches ,,13 stitches later and a mother of a hiding from pops when he got home

I ran over a 210l rusted drum cut in half taking the skin off both my shins and knees, I stayed in the bathroom in fear of pops long enough to pass out from bleeding

I used to steal my dads 250cc scrambler before my feet touched the ground ride around the neighborhood with out a helmet again my sisters helped me there, stole my moms car when ever they went away from std 7!

Smashed a merc once at my dads garage that was there for a repair,,,,I can tell you a fan belt to the ass is not something you forget quickly

I nearly cut off my finger while carving a ketty with pops wood working machine,,,I'm guessing you know what I got, stitches and ,,,,,,,,I think a plakkie to my ass

I'll rather not go into the drinking stories and what followed

Loooong story short parents are becoming waaayyyy to protective myself included, my first concussion off a bike was std 5 no helmet no shirt covered in roasties on the tar

But my kids don't dare go near a bike on grass without a helmet,,, hypocrite I know but they my babas

Giving the kid a helmet to wear would not have made it any less fun and would hardly have been "sanitising" the fun out of it.
