OK, so because I am nuts, I wanted to purchase a No 8 Jointer Plane from Lie Nielsen. These were my shipping options:

1. UPS Expedited - $211

2. UPS Saver - $240

3. USPS Priority Mail - $155 (Will probably never see it though as a SAPO worker will help himself)

Stuff that then. Guess I will never have the pleasure of owning a bespoke plane made in the USA.

Hi everyone that ordered hammers and mallets - I dropped them off at Aramex in Church street on Friday, but after investigation, it seems as if I was late for pick-up on Friday, and the guys at the Fresh Stop told me on Monday that there was no pick-up on Monday. If you need individual tracking numbers shoot me a message and I'll send along. It seems as if today is pick-up and tomorrow delivery :( So so sorry for the delays.

If my new Veritas Skew Block Plane that I ordered on Monday at Lee Valley is here before the mallet...

Just joking.

Hey, how come Myles already got his? I am only 50kms from him. Blerrie Cape Town always gets preferential treatment. Us plattelanders always get the short end of the stick.  :whistling:

Also check out the Bongous..com freight forwarding service, I have used them a few times. You can consolidate shipments from different suppliers

What you do is select local shipping and use Aramex's local (stateside) delivery address. That drastically reduces shipping costs as you're not paying their preferred shipping agent. Check it out - may work out better for you.

Got round to cleaning these two ladies the weekend. Recently purchased

Stanley 51 <USA> - discontinued in 1953

Stanley 151 <UK> - UK made 1911till 1996 (US produced them from 1911 - 1978)

The 151 is fitted with a Stanley Sweetheart blade and was quite laborious to sharpen. I still need to clean some paint in the throat areas as they both have post production paint and chatter a bit under strain.

The 51 is much better ergonomically than the 151

take a look here ... he often uses spoke shaves to shape axe handles

he can waffle on, but I enjoy his show.
