This is what you do if don't have a Skil saw - never mind the safety codes(what are those?)

Some guys putting up a palisade fence across the road.

BTW - thats the large size grinder not the little one.

Too many life guards in the gene pool these days!

Sorry for the wait on the mallets guys, hopefully everyone got theirs? If not, please give me shout / call. Hopefully I'll be back on my feet tomorrow and back to the workshop as well.

Seems i may have the tools that would benefit from a Pants Custom mallet,

Went digging in the boxes of inherited tools and pulled out some, looks like there are 6-7 chisels, and what used to be a double pin gauge, now only has a single pin.

Seems they may be lathe chisels, not sure what makes them lathe specific though.

I also got a drill powered lathe bed from them at the time, never used it myself, should perhaps clean up the workbench and try make something round.

It could be "Oregon pine" or Douglas Fir - tight grained and quater sawn - I have some very similar that I salvaged from a very old building in Muizenberg. Colour is like a bright orange. There are many different types of Oregon pine.

Will be interesting to see the other piece planed if turned 90 deg.

The two pieces shown would be from two different types of trees but still Oregon pine.

We get a pine grown in SA that has a very tight grain and no knots and when that is quater sawn you would almost swear it is cedar.

They used quater sawn Oregan for making trusses.

If anybody is looking for odd pieces of reclaimed wood, you are most welcome to collect at my house in Plumstead. I'll post a pic later of the junk pile. Has to go by the weekend as I'm clearing the site on Monday.

Great thread guys. Can anybody please confirm if the wood on the left is Oregon pine?

Right hand side looks like Oregon pine - left hand looks like it could be yellowood

PM me the address, please. I'm down the road in Wynberg and I go visit my godmother in Plummies very often.

Some short flooring lengths, boards, rafters. I have no idea why the pic rotated, but its good enough to show the wood.

I've been given this nice piece of yellow wood by the inlaws (so I can't sell it lol) : 600 x 2100 and 60 thick. Picture shows the back of it, not the nice side.

Who can assist to turn this into a coffee table or provide suggestions of any other original ideas.

Feel free to PM me with quote(s)
