I think Gerald should quit his job and start organizing all other cycle events, maybe ASG. would give you a job and make events a bigger success.

Thanks for the compliment, but I am just one of the links in the chain that makes this event turn over (6 others on the race committee).

Let me think about it, umm... No thanks.

I also want to ride (and race) my bike.

There is unfortunately also the fact that sometimes the slower or dropped riders taking up road space towards the right or middle of the road forcing either the catching bunch or group to squeeze past on the left or have to take avoiding action and hence riding in places they shouldn't to avoid having to climb on the brakes...

Should there not be (isn't there) a rule to keep left and pass right? Think a plea needs to be made on the day to all riders to stay left if they are slow or dropped as to ensure their own safety without road closure and the safety of the other cyclists.

I am not ranting just requesting and pleading for it to please be made abundantly clear to all on the day.

This is a big concern, especially where the long and short route merge. The final 20km or so at R4S this year were a mess with big bunches of very slow (short route) riders chatting away over the whole lane and the only way you can pass is over the white line. Some of them also took offence when you politely request them to move to the left. Traffic in this section was also quite hectic which made it very unsafe to pass.

I honestly don't know how race organisers are going to address this. Even during last weeks Satellite classic, cyclists rode on the right of the white line and couldn't give a flying *&^% for marshals and other cyclists telling them to stay on the left.

Full road closure in the final 5km, so there's more than enough space.

Edit: Every group up to DL should make the right turn at the big 4-way intersection before the 65Km route turns left.

We're starting 15 minutes earlier to allow the licensed men a chance to ride the extra lap, but it also means the 103Km groups start earlier.

The 65Km start time remains very similar to before.

This has been announced at our race for as long as I can remember, or have been involved at the start/finish, and something our marshals are required to shout out on the route if they see people riding 2-3-4 abreast (not in a bunch). Unfortunately, some people don't listen.

At least it gets addressed   - this is much more than what happens at most events. Everyone is much safer that way.

It what happens when the event is managed by cyclists (licensed and fun riders).

We don't get everything right, all the time, but our team is made up of Rotarians (doing it for charity) and Cyclists (doing it for the sport).

There are lots of heated discussions behind the scenes, but at the end of the day we compromise somewhere in the middle and everyone benefits.

If anyone is interested in a 60Km MTB entry, we have one person that is unable to ride.

The only way she can get a refund is if she sells her entry.

This will be my 11th (on the record) Carnival.

Awesome race!

that says a lot.

Will be my first, had to make a plan to do it after reading only good things about the event.

Pays to have a Head office in Jozi with a boss who has interest in the sport.

Is there no late registration for Sunday's kids ride? Only the Saturday mtb race is mentioned on the forms.

There is late entries on the day for all event, except the 125km distance.

There are two different forms for the kiddies event and the main events.

Edit: kiddies ride starts at 09:00, and entries can be done right up to the start time. It's an informal, and very basic event.
