Thanks for an awesome race Gerald, was great meeting you as well!

Had a great race in the CL bunch, made the split and somehow managed to hold out to the end. First sub-3 and first podium for me, so I was properly chuffed   The wind was hectic though, thanks to everyone who contributed to pulling on the front. There was a guy from DL who stayed with us, man you were strong

RIP to the rider who passed away.

dude Kudo's nibali for doing a sub 3 from cl . The pace was fast from the off and the front of cl were driving hard. To hard for me got dropped at 50km or so .. Slowly fell of and tried twice to get back on.Dude you guys were strong up front and put the hurt on the rest of cl. As for the guys that came flying past at 28km from dl ...how hard did you go to catch up as we were 40km/hr ave at that point.

Once again as only my 5th road race lots to learn about pace and when not to go.... 3:08 was a bit disappointing but considering the wind and lack of help in our group I'll happily take it.

Once again well done on sub 3 only 2 guys from cl managed it ????????????????????????

Was that what happened on the start line? I saw the commissaire speaking to the guy next to me but I thought it had something to do with his camera. And it looked like he still started.

Yes they did talk to him at the start and yes he did still start and then after about 20km he got called out the group. Spinnekop can give more details as it's a team mate of his. It is a pity as he is a strong rider and a well known name in the vet peloton. He probably would have placed yesterday.

The officials told us about it at the finish, and we could expect a complaint from them.

Also happened in the ladies group. Lynette Burger mentioned it during the race as she tweeted about the ladies.

The problem is that is doesn't get enforced consistently at every race, and then organizer is the one that takes the blame or looks like the problem.

Yeah CSA is very inconsistent. I guess because your race is so well run the only thing they can nail people on is their bikes.

That DL bunch was FAST!!! Sat with them till about 26km/27km mark and the legs needed a breather... We were averaging 44km/h at that stage, if memory serves

Seven of DL finished under 3 hours...

Not enough rest before this race to stay on, but managed to recover... Happy with my 3:11. Would've been happier with something closer to 3:05, though.

Hope you enjoyed the hospitality afterwards too - free cokes

I was so poked I forgot to get my coke and medal  Just went straight to the car for a lie-down

Edit: Also, apparently stairs are not my friend today.

Edit 2: Reading about these speeds at the start, I think our ML break can be quite proud, we averaged 42kph up until we first turned east (30km in) and got faceblasted. Man the start was fast holy hell it was fun. Probably burnt a few too many matches that early, but who cares, it was good fun!

true that ,those guys from D caught up early. But I got dropped for the front of CL at about 50km's ... Those fast not steep enough climbs just kill me,especially with the wind in your face. To the guy from Al with his lady friend and a few cl riders that kept the 2nd group of us going Kudo's lad's. To those that sat there till we turned the cnr...whatever

And to Gerald and his team. Easy access when you arrive ,easy to leave, great marshaling ,plenty police ,road closure. Everything went like clockwork . Awesome event all the man hours paid of for sure. You guys are legends

Just a side note : pse can we order no wind next year

That oke you mention from AL, could've started in D group. Dion Guy. From PainCave in Benoni.. What a machine of a rider..

Honestly, that group could have gone sub 3 if more than 2 people did some work.

It amazes me that open seeded bunches want to ride for time, but then leave it up to only a few to pull and dictate the time that is then achieved. This is very silly. By only letting 2-3 guys do most of the work, people effectively reside themselves to those guys times. 2-3 guys pulling into a headwind will tire them out so quickly.

Top tip for groups going for time. Help the stronger guys in your group, even if it is just a bit, it will give them some recovery time and they can then pull the rest for longer and harder.

Guys had disk brakes at the Satellite (VB) and also at the Centurion Rooiwal race (VA).  Did not even get a mention.

Nail on the head dude. Amazes me we all have a common goal.
