I had 20mm rims and put 2.4 X-Kings on - worked fine on Spruit tipe rides but rolling resistance was an issue for me. Put a 2.2 RaceKing at the back and was tons better.

I Agree with Iwan and Rocket Boy. The Conti's are not as wide as their size suggests. I've got a Mountan king(front) and X king (rear) 2.4's mounted on a set of Mavic Crossmax ST wheels. The rims have a 19mm internal width. They work very well ! I Run 20psi front and 25psi rear. Verry good traction and a much more comfortable ride than 2.2's.

There was an article I read not so long ago (can't find it now of course) where the tyre and rim manufacturers have release guidelines as to the best rim/tyre combos and how running a wide tyre on a narrow rim can open yourself up to a world of trouble as this can cause the tyre to roll/burp and you would have to run such combo at a higher pressure to prevent it thus negating the benefits of the design...

I went with wider rims and will never look back!! just feel so much more stable! There are affordable options out there but it does boil down to budget .. Wide lightning's for example are wide and light . bout 8k for a set I believe

If you are looking for a set of Wide lightnings I just so happen to have a set for Sale:)

Bought them, have done about 100kms on them and then upgraded my bike to a frame that is Boost spec so cant use them.

If you're interested PM me.

I'm running a 2.4 on a Ibex on old giant pxc2 rims. They are thinner than Emily Batty's arms. And I've never had issues. Tyre is slightly rounder, but if they squirm I put more air in.

I have 2.4 Ardents on 23mm Flow rims. They are brilliant. 28psi back 25psi front no roll. Lots of grip. Not all 2.4s are created equal of course. These just seem to work very well...

I think this is the first time I’ve read of someone that likes the ardents up front.

Really? I think it's a case of the right tyre for the job/bike. I would not run one up front on my enduro bike but on my hard tail there is masses of grip up front...to much for a sticky enduro type tyre.
