Coach copycat - ok or not so much?

Not cool, she could at least take the time to make it look individual

So what do real individualized training programs go for?

30 (guestimate) clients x 800 is a handy amount for a few hrs work...

Funny thing is, I used a lady coach who moved to Cape Town and she sent me another Hubbers training program "by mistake". He is nearly half my age but the same weight. Different target and HR so it is just not on.

Not cool.

@Cleats - be careful and at that price I would expect more than a copy and paste.

You raise a good point, expectation.

What do you guys expect from a online coach at that price?

Not to be told to do hill reps up suikerbossie when you live in Bloemfontein would be a start

Do you think that's a constructive response? You might as well say "not to be punched in the face".

The question is, What WOULD you expect?

Would query it absolutely! Even with a generic template I'd expect it to be adapted accordingly with my individual information, and not be told to "find a similar hill in Jhb"

Alternatively as an option there are plenty highly regarded coaching services in Jhb as well.

His joke is my reality, actually. Training advice in magazines would say: find a hill that takes you about 10 minutes to climb.

In Bloem? Yeah, no. Maybe if I take the longest climb on my usual route and ride it 50% slower...

You can simulate hills by rising harder on the flats or by using an IDT. Where there is a will there is a way ????????

That's a complex question with multiple criteria which I did not have time to go into at 10pm on a Saturday night.... My coach says I need to get at least 8 hrs sleep tonight....

My answer listed just one of those criteria which is probably the most important and relevant to the topic:

The coach should know where I train and NOT prescribe a training route that Is clearly meant for someone else.

For example Instead of naming a particular climb in another time zone they should use gradient / distance.

If training with a powermeter and you need someone to analyse the data ...then I'll say go with a coach.and one that knows what he's doing....maybe Training Peaks might be the answer as well..otherwise I'll get a copy of Joel Friels book and take it from there...all the best...????

Still a good question nobody has been able to answer - what are your expectations for a coach and training plan and at what cost?

Perhaps the OP and others can share some more info what she and you get (or not) for the R800? Does the coach check every training ride to confirm right zones or that the program was followed? Perhaps weekly or monthly feedback with comments, suggestions and tweaks?

Just go google the "training plans" yourself.

Why pay someone R800 a month to do it for you?

My sentiment exactly. I must admit firstly I don't know how these online / virtual coach training plans work. If you a pro, I would imagine your coach will be next you. But if you not, why pay so much money for stuff that are online for free? Really, everyone now knows whats the drill, LSD, hill repeats, interval training, so much watts, so much in zone 5. #semaarnet

As stated page 1 this is not coaching it merely a training plan - and with all due respect to these "coaches" - calling it coaching is definitely misrepresenting oneself. It they say the offering a training plan that a completely different story.

Having coached a handful of cyclist (for free) to competed at world champs - some even bring back medals - I really do feel this commercial industry has brought down the good names of some proper coaches in RSA.
