How would you rate a Raleigh RC2000?

So I've just found a Raleigh RC2000 on the interwebs. I don't know too much about road bikes, but it's my size, and it seems to be going for a good price. Really just looking for a second hand road bike for the road events. I've had a look on le Hub, although I'm looking for something that's my size in KZN.

Any thoughts on the RC2000?

I had one in my early days! Perfect bike for starting out and seeing if you like the sport. If the one you want has descent wheels and Sora / Tiagra groupset, you cannot go wrong.

You still see them around in the fast bunches at races every now and then, so can't be too bad.

Solid entry level racer.

But checking out the actual bike for sale is important.

E.g. this one appers to be in good condition, but my gut says that R5000 is a little too high.

This one, aside for the shabby break hood covers, looks to be in fairly good cond, and at a good price. But the lack of detailed pic makes it a bit hard to tell.

Goes without saying to take a good look at the bike before buying. I presume that you know MTB bikes well. This can be relied apon to check the bike does not have anything expensive to fix wrong with it.

If it's the green and yellow one your biggest problem will be matching kit. I rode an RC3000 for many years. My son now takes it once a year rides 94.7.

Family with a 2000. No problems. Good solid bikes.

Edit: R 5000 is too much. R2500 to R 3500 max. would be my humble opinion

There you go ....

Hi,

Those old Raleigh's are bullet proof. I had a 6000 that I did 75000km on over a few years. The only problem that I had was the fork that I had to eventually had to replace,

Got a 2005  RC 6000. Great frame geo which i presume is the same as the 2000. Weighs in at less than an equivalent, smaller, Cannondale with same spec (105).

Just be careful with the sizing.  For some reason they were sold on seat tube height and not virtual top tube.  If memory serves me a 48 had a TT of 52 cm.

Correct, this was also my first road bike.

RC2000 Sora 3x8

Served me well for 2 years and sold off for same price i paid for it. R1800

They nice, i got my one few weeks ago at a cash converters for R1700.

It needs work, but otherwise it rides fine, I can imagine once its serviced it will be great.

I'm more of a mtb'er so always wanted a cheap road bike to ride when I'm unable to get to trails...helps with general fitness.

First thing i did was remove the home made perma tube in the front wheel....was a piece of hosepipe with electrical cord inside of the hose...the tyre had to be cut off the rim. lol

Same here, although I'm really just looking for something for the road events, and for a little training on the road. I used to have a Cannondale CAAD8 which I used for that sort of thing, then sold it to concentrate more on MTB. Wish I had kept that bike now that I think about it.
