does it matter? everyone needs to know, whether they are club members or hub members or club members in another province at another club, they need to be aware of what will happen, cause it is happening all Over.

Milky I agree with Moridin - People would not know you are referring to Trail Z and might just ignore the topic

- Please mention Trail Z in your title otherwise many will miss the point of this thread

Off topic, two rogue riders were riding on our farm and saw the workers standing in the designated trail so they took first turn off to avoid them. This turn off happened to be my driveway and their timing was perfect in that my wife just pulled out of our gate and got out of the car to close it but she didn't see them.

She got a bit of a fright when the two popped out infront of her and my bigger dog of my two german sheppards noticed that she got a skrik and being the great dog he is, went for the riders, and he speared tackled one clean off his bicycle. Luckily for the skelm/boef/tsotsi my wife shouted at the dog and he went back into his yard and the dief jumping on his bike said sorry and they both sprinted away.

To this day i dont even know if my dog got in a good hap but they wont be riding there again. Ps. There are massive no cycling signs (2 actually) at the start of our driveway and moerse big sign at farm entrance.

i can't express how upset I am with your wife right now for calling off the dog.

I find it staggering that anyone would feel that they are entitled to deviate from the marked trail. It shows a complete lack of respect for the private property that it is a privilege and not a right to make use of in the way that we do.

I will certainly challenge and photograph and report any cyclist I encounter on the trails who is not adhering to the rules in terms of which we have access to these fantastic locations.

Its just the call to arms the TBMTBC Kommando needed. Expect to see guys with beer boeps, and camo tightpants patrolling the trails this weekend, trying to shoot every suspected rogue rider on sight...

On a serious note, I feel for club officials. The only way to deal with this would be laying a charge of trespassing and getting the matter some media coverage.

When Sauser got pinged for illegally accessing land a few years ago, many sat up and noticed.

I agree, but remember, even the professionals sometimes get lost, and not by accident, because it has costed them time and a position on the podium...

One needs to monitor or at least try find the root cause of the issue.

They got lost on purpose?

Refer to these comments and you decide it people are getting lost on this trail:

don't know if you've ridden there Headshot, but it's pretty much impossible to get lost on that trail. There's only one path to follow.

I just watched a video  of the trail and would agree.... you have to be pretty dumb to go off track by accident.

Is there a dam along the way? Maybe people have been having a rest on the grass? Is that allowed?

I rode the trail for the first time this weekend, and it is wonderful. Also extremely difficult to wander off of. The only place I can think if is the road that follows next to the river where the trail goes back over the stile. Otherwise I cannot for the life of me think it was an 'exploring' option, or a 'getting lost' option. Hope this doesn't escalate.

The club norm should be that if you see someone without a board or off the trail that you ask them what is happening. In the event that they are lost - a gentle pointer in the right direction. In the even that they are taking chances - a photograph and an email to the supplied address.

IT's not a question of kommando but of responsible adults realising that the use of the trails is a privilege and not a right and cultivating a group norm that breaking the rules is not acceptable.

I have to confess we did that once - while riding at waterval boven - tackling the route that was way above my fitness or skill level - eventually we decided we had to call it when i was pretty much pushing my bike and we had run out of water, we saw a field with some cows grazing - made our way through it - we didn't open any gates or jump any fences - however after a while there was a house and I realised we're probably going through someone's yard - but TBH at that point I felt that if a farmer started taking pot shots at me for trespassing - it would be less painful.

It's wrong but it wasn't intentional

Some of the Pro's and others have gotten lost 'on purpose' to practise routes otherwise unavailable. But this situation is different.

I thought he was referring to my member.... but after considering that for a moment of incredulity and then reading the thread it seems I was initially mistaken.

HOWEVER - on a serious note - can the club not do what the Cape Epic does and use Strava, Garmin connect and other tools like this to find these errant few and reprimand them?

Unfortunately the only way to teach children is to treat them like children.

The sense of entitlement amongst cyclists in general is awful.

Punish those who will not listen.Ban them.No suspension.Arrest them for trespassing and lay charges. If all fails just shut down the trail and find something else to do.

I am absolutely amazed at how selfish these riders are.Just throw the book at them

Most likely someone halfway through the trail decided they wanted to take a shortcut out via the farm roads rather than the long way back up to Hoogekraal?

Ja, but this does raise an interesting point though in as much as advice to multitude of real beginners who decide to ride a trail and their inexperience gets them into trouble. On a very hot day I can imagine people getting really stuck down there if they do the Cobra, etc, first. Probably 1h30 to get down there for beginners. And I would imagine that area is hideously hot if there is no cool breeze like on Sunday.

Judging by the OP there seems to have been more than one "somebody's" doing this.

This TBMTBCABCTMTBC seems to have more rogue rider problems than anywhere else. Why is that so?

Definitely don't want to justify rogue riding but was also caught by surprise by how long Trail Z is - the loop took me far longer than expected. Agree that you could get caught out if not prepared...

law of averages. 5000 members = a lot of idiots.
