If i had a sub 9kg HT i would probably give it a go. My HT nowhere near that so might as well take the DS and try shed some weight in the next 3 weeks

Done it on a 3x10 ht and 2x10 fs. Doing it on the ht this year.

Ooo looking forward to the replies on this, also need to make a choice, but mine not so much a sub 9. So not a weight thing as a gearing thing. got a 3X10 on my hard tail and a 2X10 on dual sus

I only ride HT (real bikes). Done my first few on cheap 3x8 GT 29er. My fastest was last year on a 2x10 Silverback. This year I'll be back on the Silverback but it is now 1x10, slick (worn) tyres and tekkies with flat pedals.

If my Saturday ride is anything to go by then I should be able to ride down to Knysna, then back to Uniondale and then back down half way. Lovely training ride this Transkaroo thing.

After the rain damage a few years ago , the jeep track on way down the WaPad was pretty sketchy, HTs might be a bit touch n go.

 

Personally, I wouldn't do this ride on a HT.

Nonsense, unless that was before 2011, but since then I rode all of them and it is perfectly fine on a hard tail. Unless you are a pensioner, then you might want to opt for easy mode on a duelly.
