Not saying this is the cause but they really need to set up more regular road blocks on that road to check blood alcohol levels. Far too many people sit and kuier on wine in that little town and then drive home.

Agree... I was surprised that while I was in the winelands over Christmas I did now see ANY roadblocks while so many were enjoying their wine... was wondering if they were not testing not to turn / scare tourists away....

Get better soon...

This makes me so flipping angry...hit from BEHIND in the YELLOW LANE.

ANOTHER wholly AVOIDABLE "accident" - but only IF south african drivers would adhere to the BASIC rules of the road.

Grrr...

I got stopped twice in December - once on that road and another on the N2 (close to Grabouw). Wasn't a road block, but rather two officers pulling cars over at random. Scanned my drivers licence and car licence and let me go.

If people would just drive the speed limit, not 20km/hr below or 40km/hr above the limit, there would be no need for yellow line driving.

I just wish half the idiots on SA roads would realise that a yellow lane is an emergency lane for ambos or police, and not an alternative lane for general driving!!

Very relieved to hear that this wasnt a fatal accident.

Get Well soon MT.

This kind of accident seems to be quite common - cyclists JRA and gets drilled from behind.

It's seldom that bad or silly behaviour from the cyclist results in death, so the call for us to ride carefully and obey the law isn't really protecting us.

Its the motorists that need to wake up!

Ordinarily I wouldn't have known who he was but this happened a little while back:

Honestly, I hope to get a few more of these from him in future. Heal up.

What more can we say. SA motorists seem to suck in general. Maybe this olde duck would have had her licence cancelled if there were proper re-examinations after a certain age. My father would certainly have been pulled off the road before he worked out for himself that driving was a bad idea.

On Friday I was almost hit by an oncoming car which veered off the road slightly towards me as I cycled in the gravel. The tjop was in a large white jeep and holding up a stream of cars. Either sheer incompetence or texting or drunk or all three.

The crazy thing is that is a long straight road. How do you still hit someone from behind if you could see him for at least 1km ahead.
