There is a guy in Somerset West who is just like that. He obsesses over KOMs and will spend days trying to get them..... but its all these smaller more obscure ones, on the longer harder ones he gets a proper boerielashing so he tends to leave those ones alone.

Who? Who? Who?

Time to take his KOMS ;)

And for those of us who bought Betamax players?? Just join Strava.. Its much more than a KOM hunting platform in the same way that there is much more value to FaceBook than pretending to live a fake life and much more to Instagram than avo toast.

I did try to register on Strava ... but got rejected when I selected short socks ....

Thanks PureSavage, for now I will continue using the PPA site.

PS - just used the PPA site for Saturday's event outside Worcester ....

Letter sent by the CEO of PPA (including the results of survey, 600 participated)

SURVEY RESULTS

Last year’s PPA survey provided us with some interesting insights.

43% of respondents, when asked what PPA should focus on, wanted more road cycling events. In 2017 we added 5 Cyclosportifs to the calendar and this year we’re increasing the series to 6 events. Unless our road events start bursting at the seams with riders, I don’t see an immediate need for more new road events. If there is an increased demand, we will respond to it accordingly.

58% of respondents to the same question want more safety campaigns and 41% want us to do more advocacy work. We are definitely going to focus on increasing campaign visibility in Gauteng and nationally and we will assist with local activations where we can. Local activism will help increase the Safe Cycling footprint.

Advocacy is also a focus area this year, with the City of Cape Town having recognised the need to start bringing the Cycling Strategy to life. While the water crisis is the current key focus area for officials, we have begun engaging with the City around the Strategy.

I understand that the type of questions could influence a certain outlook, but generally seems that those still part of the PPA have a positive outlook in what has been happening.

I’m slightly confused. He asks why the people want and they say road Events, then goes on to say he doesn’t agree with the people and that there won’t be more road events?

Was he looking for opinions or confirmation?

Edit: NOT an attack, a question so please keep your panties unknotted.

It seems that people love to complain that there aren't enough road events but when road events are added not many actually enter them.

Maybe the survey was incorrectly phrased, people don't just want more road events, they want more road events in the peninsula.

THIS, yes!

From what I have heard the road event entries are now too high. Basically a family of 3 riding a road event on the weekend needs to pay over R1000 (this maybe incorrect) on entries. Not to mention driving to these out of town events - an expensive day out!

Then supply & demand will sort out where the entry price for a race must be set.

cycling has become a rather expensive sport, both road and MTB....this if very unfortunate.....not to mention the cost of keeping the bikes running

the good old "let your wallet do the talking" adage?

Late to the party, I started reading this thread from page one, got to page 13/14 and decided to skip to the end as I was getting bored.

I've been a member of PPA since my first Argus in 1999.

Why did I join and continue to be a member ? I had no choice if I wanted to compete in the funride world champs i.e. CTCT.

As a Jo'burger I never saw any direct benefit from being a member. The discounted entry fees were only for evens in WC.

I appreciated the Wide of the Rider campaign even though I thought it was amateurish. (no I dont have suggestions on how to make it better)

So a couple of points I took out of the first 13 pages.

1) Cycling safety. We love to blame the motorist. In alot of cases rightly so, but we must not be so quick to assume innocence of the cyclist. I see it way to often on the bike and have experienced it way to often in teh car when cyclists are just plain arrogant. And pointing out or suggesting to the cyclist, no matter how polite, is always greeted with the same F U attitude. I've actually stopped wasting my energy on it.

Safety is a 2 way street and any campaign that goes out should focus on both parties. Clubs should get stricter on its member during club rides about safety too.

2) PPA in Gauteng. I see the results of their survey, hopefully its not just talk. I'd like to see some value for the money I am forced to pay every year.

3) The issue of more road races from the survey. Perhaps they should do a follow up survey to those that responded wanting more road races and get more details of what they want. As they say, the races are not bursting at the seams, but maybe the respondents are looking for something else.

point no.2 is not a forced point as I understand it, it is a choice, a choice to get a good seeding, etc?

you could be correct, but at one stage the impression made was that is was compulsory to be a member and that has stuck with me to the point that I dont even check anymore.

I've entered every single year since 1999, I seem to recall on year that I tried to complete my entry without ticking the box and it came back with me being required to renew my membership.
