Is this the first time a ladies team will have a support team?

Far as I know yes, definitely in recent history at least.

I'm actually not the least interested in her private life or any other pro cyclist for that matter.

But I do find the over-zealous protection on thehub of her somewhat bizarre

Her name comes up on a thread one of the first pre-emptive comments are "Don't dare discuss her private life - or else!"

Streisand effect very pertinent here...

Anyway, moving on

Why is Annika Langvad not at the Epic or is she teaming up with someone else?

Think she is finishing off her studies.

... something that started as a way to stay fit alongside her dentistry studies, riding has become a whole lot more for Annika, but she's not given up her studies, using her degree as an insurance for her future, hoping to be fully qualified by spring this year.

Interesting then that she is here in South Africa doing the Atta and other races, assumed that is part of her Epic preparation

Then feel free to criticize her professional endeavours, if you think you can justifiably do so. But, her private life should be outta bounds, even to non fans.

This is the free western world with free western interweb social media where we are free to criticize the personal lives of these "so-called celebrities". If you are a so-called "celebrity" you know that every aspect of your social life will be put a silver platter for public online scrutinization and therefor I will feel free to comment on any "so-called celebrity" personal stuff.

If you want to be a tall tree then know that I will comment on any aspect of your life including failures - this is the main pastime of the western world now suddenly you come here and say : "Oh no you are not allowed!"

There was some article, that her studies only start in Feb, so there was enough time for a last race or two before she put her focus back on her studies.  And maybe to let everyone know she should not be forgotten

Cycling Pros are not celebrities in the traditional sense.

However, I often struggle to grapple with this notion that it's ok to leverage fame for gain, but then there must be understanding and privacy given on other occasions. (This Amor asking for privacy thing after she spends her life thrusting herself into the limelight comes to mind.....)

Unfortunately if you are going to make your living from being famous, you will need to deal with the down sides of fame.... it's an unfortunate reality.

We can ask some questions, but we can do so tactfully and respectfully.

Nobody's delving into the reasons they got divorced. It happened and it's public knowledge. The uninformed were simply being informed.

Fully agree, Warren'.

To extrapolate on my post:

The line got crossed when a remark was made about her ex-husband, Erik Kleinhans.

That's when I made a point.

Die-wors is a a very common life phenomenon,

As regular as seeing 29ers on them trails.

Conjecturing about the details in public. Well. I don't support dat.

Didn't read any disparaging remarks re Erik unless you refer to the one about him not being very clever?

We will actually see now if she is mentally up to the challenge to be the strongest rider in the team with tough competition. I reckon Annika nursed her well in the epic's they have won together

If Tony Martin reincarnated as a woman

Langvad ????
