I think what the video maker did is valid and useful. If i had time i would edit together the choicest clips from my dashcam and post it with registration numbers attached. The proper response to being called out on poor traffic behaviour is recognition of fault and apology including taking steps to stop behaving poorly.

Homophobic and Snide comments casting aspertions on the person calling us out are offensive and reveal more about the character of those making them than anything else.

Just follow traffic rules.

Obey the law.

I am so shocked and surprised; well er, not.

But an aside - as a pedestrian it is hard to avoid breaking the law it seems to me anyway.  The green man is very rare and fleeting in the cycles (sic) I have walked to.  You have to really be sharp and quick off the mark to make it.  And of course this can always be spoilt by turning motorists who see only green for them.

I see many walkers, joggers and even a lady with a pram going through the red light. Seems Capetonians have lost the plot. What a lawless province. I hope people do not asociate South Africa with that poo poo province. Please DA rectify this once proud place.

:w00t:  generalizing, name calling and bad spelling.

There's already so much hate between cyclists and motorists. All a video like this does is add fuel to the fire.

Yup.

Cyclists break the law then cry foul.

Motorists break the law then cry foul.

Truckers break the law then cry foul.

Motorbikers break the law then cry foul.

President breaks the law a few hundred times and no foul

Hmmmm I wonder what the common theme is.....

now we need the DEATH stats, run over stats, accident stats and more for that particular traffic light and cyclists.

If the man hugging video maker could provide this too, perhaps as an edit at the end of the clip, that would be great.

But I suppose the ZERO deaths, injuries, accidents or like sort of **** up his video point, even though the riders did cruise through red lights.

It seems like there's a few too many people getting upset over this video. If you're having a negative emotional reaction to someone pointing out lawlessness then you probably need to evaluate why this is.

Casting aspersions/veiled insults against video creator speaks more to your character than it does his.

HAte between motorists and cyclists is not what is being promoted here. The video simply shows that lots of cyclists break the law.

It seems that equating having one's illegal behaviour pointed out feels to many South Africans, our president included, like a hostile act of hate that requires some kind of retributive attack.

It doesn't -

I had such a refreshing exchange at a robot the other day. I pulled up next to a man who had passed me while talking on his phone. I said "Please don't talk on your phone - it is very dangerous for you and the people around you".

He said "I know - I'm sorry" - said goodbye to the person he was talkiing to. We had a chat about cycling - the light changed - we went our way.

As a cyclist and motorist I appeal to all cyclists here to obey the law. Stop at the robots - give way to pedestrians - don't use your phone on the bike etc....

To all the people hating on the video maker - perhaps it's time for some quiet introspection. There is NO defendable position to take - it's a bunch of people breaking the law and more importantly - acting like selfish twats.
