I have the XT 785 on my 1 bike and Deore 615 on the other both run the same pads both weigh the same both stop the same with XT ice tech rotors(stopping power is very good and I am 100kg). The rotors makes a big difference the brakes you are paying for that little XT badge in my opinion.

The best ones are the ones that work.

What is your current setup?

When last did you service them?

There are not really any bad ones - most good.

Thanks for all the info guys!! My Bike is only 4 months old with 146km on clock ,so I don`t think it need bleeding. Everything on my bike is XT but the brakes are Deore front 180mm and back 160mm rotors.

My weight was 126.6kg and are now down to 111.2kg  so I thought to upgrade my brakes for I little more stopping power, like bigger rotors but maybe its better to upgrade to XT or SLX setup!!

Dankie :D

XT & SLX won't give you any extra power over the deore. Increasing the rotor size will.

and a bleed, so many people just trust that a new bikes brakes are bled correctly!

I've been running SLX / XT for a few years now and reckon SLX is by far the best / most reliable set up there is for general riding. Obviously if you're a racing snake you have other priorities above just stopping but for me when gravity take hold and corners come SLX has been solid in stopping and saving.

I recently picked up some new deores for my 160mm fun bike and have been super impressed. I got them for less than R900 and can't fault them at all. The fact I haven't noticed them one bit but they have done everything I've asked of them with out fuss and no dramas make me feel kinda stupid for waiting to replace them with a set of Formula Cura's for mucho more.

As Myles said rotor size, put Ice tech front and rear 203 front and 180 rear I run a 180f/180r and it works hundreds for me but I am about 20kg lighter then you. Oh and this is with SLX and steel pads,XTR is a waste of money.Running this setup for 3 years now and no issues.

Which specific Ice Tech rotors are you referring to?

I am considering the same upgrade for my Deore brakes.

Those would be SM-RT81 (centerlock) or SM-RT86 (6-bolt). They're the XT ice-tec ones. You also get XT non-ice-tec ones which are SM-RT-76/79. All of these are available in 160mm, 180 mm and 203mm.

In all honesty, IF your current set-up is running properly, you're not going to notice a huge improvement from deore to XT.

I did the same upgrade and, while the XT's are much cooler, the improvement in braking performance, feel, adjustability etc. was barely noticeable.

At 100kg's plus, i would not recommend XTR's, as they're made for weight-weeny cross country boys, not large SA okes.

I've heard that the Hopes are superb but you'll PAY.
