Did VC have a better race this year compared to last year? Was it a good decision to start after the Tandems?

I rode VB last year, and we were cruising for a 2:15, so this year seem pedestrian at 2:25.  I think VC rode a 2:20 last year.

We had zero interference from the tandems.

5 minutes slower but I think every other group was slower. We only caught some of the slower tandems. Course too flat to catch the fast tandems. Can't recall any problems last year, other than allowing couple of guys to get away and nobody wanting to chase.

Personally I think the race needs a couple of hills (or wind), seems like every group finished with a sprint.

I agree, then the Wheelsuckers will suffer a bit.

last year there were some tandems that caught the VC bunch - not 100% sure if it caused a problem or not.

At least this time, the lead tandems would stay away and VC only had to be concerned with a few tandems. The gap to AL would have prevented VC from being caught by AL.

Unfortunate that it is a flat route, but here in the East it's relatively flat for miles.

For other groups:

I see the ladies finished a few seconds ahead of the BL group, so they too would have had a relatively free road ahead, especially with a large AL group finishing together.

Good lord! Racetec shows that the winner of AL was a U16...

If that is correct then that guy should be riding licensed. Would like to know if he was riding normal gearing or the reduced gears the juniors have to race with.

Why? Why can't he ride AL if he wants too?

I think you're right. Tandems came past, guys tried to jump on. Commissaire started screaming, tandems disappeared. Think they got the order spot on this year.

At my age the memory is not so great.

I finished with the other dropped riders from AL, about 11 minutes behind the main bunch and still had time to catch my breath before seeing the sprint finish of the ladies race take place! Brilliant effort in the end by Kimberley Le Court

Also, Mr. Camelback in DL, you're effin' strong mate. Whoever you are.

I had a work with him at the finish. He needs to learn to let some others do the work so he can sprint at the finish. He was strong the whole way through but faded towards the end.

That was fun! DL worked together really well (heck I even did a few turns at the front) and we managed to roll over the line just over 2h30m (Garmin).

That was a lekker one, good job!

I must say... haven't enjoyed a race like that in a long time. There were some strong men at the front on DL determined to pull the whole way. It was only the last few k's where some new faces started to come to the front.
