I think I will "roof-ride" it wait @ VA-K90 then just jump into a group, ride all the way as a training ride and then turn homeward bound after the gold course.

As a new cyclist and a pretty excited one, im not at that point to question pricing for events, i entered ride for sight and now the emperors 98km race as my second event ever however reading the above posts puts a bit of a damper on things but i fully agree if its daylight robbery then there is no point entering when the next week you can just get some mates and ride the route.

Agree with Spinnekop’s reply. It’s one of the easier routes on the calendar and possibly one that you’ll enjoy.

Is it expensive? Yes, >25% than other East Rand races.

However, events are run based on seeding, and riding with your mates won’t get you a finish time and a seeding index. As a newbie, this would be a positive especially if you want to get an early-ish start time at the Gauteng Fun Ride Champs (947).

Thanks Spinnekop & Frosty

Yeah look I’m at that noob level where I wanna enter everything lol - I just wanna ride. Would like to do the 947 and that Amashovo (spelling) race for sure. Feeling amped for this race as I really enjoyed the ride for sight maybe cause it was my first event.

Thanks guys :)

Did the route last week, fast and furious, without pushing too hard and few stops to regroup my ave was still good. IMO having done RFS, Carnival and Fast One I have found this to be flatter and faster. Good for seeding and time (sub 3 easily achievable) but down side is potential for more crashes.

There was a 92km race this weekend in Pretoria, cost a total of R180 to do it, same sort of profile. Glad I rode it.

We should talk with our attendance and really support these smaller events.

In fairness though, that is just laps of a 25-odd km route. So it is a bit different.

Dont let this talk dampen your spirits. When I was a newbie I lived my life from one event to the next and always looked so forward to them and was happy to pay the money for something that gave me real excitement and joy. Lets not even talk about what meaningless material possessions some other people are prepared to spend R415 on, or what a game of golf costs.

These races are expensive, but it's a free market and if it was so easy to slap a race together and make millions out of it, there would probably be others entering the market and we'd have an event every week. Look at the Advendurance National MTB series, people complained about how expensive that was and how much money the organisers must be making and now its had to be discontinued because they couldn't find a sponsor. And that's sad.

I know events like this aren't for everyone but they really do have their place in the sport and I think a lot of us would miss them if they were gone. Its nice for the more social or newer riders who do use the water points and the sweeper vehicles and enjoy the safety in numbers etc. It's also nice for couples or families that all want to ride but aren't necessarily all the same strength, you can go to the event and all start and finish at the same place, but at the same time all have your own ride and know that there are support structures in place if anything should go wrong.

So if this excites you and you're prepared to pay the money for it, don't let any of this negative talk put you off. Your continued support of these events will keep them going for more people's enjoyment in future. Others are entitled to choose to spend their money differently, but don't let their decisions influence yours.

Boys...we are getting screwed in this sport to the point that our rears are going to start bleeding. Events are just one part of how people and organizations make money in this game. When the argument of how much your bike costs versus the entry to a race or event costs comes up then you realize the event organizers see you as someone who has lots of cash. Actually I have worked my way up in the sport to now having expensive bikes but that does not say I have endless amounts of cash. I would love to support certain events each year but at the prices at the moment sorry not for me. It is not just ASG that are driving this price war but take a look at their new concept store here in PTA. You will quickly see where the cost of your entry goes. Rant off

Final drive for entries...

Have you submitted all your results on their site? Not all events are included on the seeding unless you manually submit them.

I fully agree with you, I will give this a skip, R415 and my CSA licence for the day R35 with no road closure, and with  Sh!ty BETA, I would rather ride this in our group on any weekend, less of a danger with the high speeds during the race.

Still dont know if I am going to enter.

Didnt do many races last year so my seeding sucks, so I probably should do it to get my seeding sorted out.
