So I have officially entered my first ever Ironman. decided a bit late i know but have been battling with ITB since Durban's 70.3.

I have downloaded a free training plan but its only 12 weeks which means i only start it on Jan 22. Does anyone have a better plan they are willing to share or perhaps just a good way to build a strong base platform till Jan?

Got accommodation at Bishops Inn, its about 1.7km from Broadwalk Hotel, anyone stayed here before?

Downloaded from where, a pdf or one you can use on trainingpeaks?

Most plans are 12 weeks but if you want to build before starting the plan, here a free 12 week base fitness plan.  If you start now you will be able to complete before you Jan 22

https://www.trainingpeaks.com/training-plans/triathlon/ironman/tp-85881/usat-140-6-base-period-12-week-plan

If you are not using trainingpeaks, there is a free version of it which you can use and then upload the plan to follow.

Entered for my second as well. Training coming along nicely, hitting about 8 hours a week now, but that will obviously increase in the coming months. I feel that I’m preparing a lot better the second time around; I will hit 1000km running for the year this week (Which is about double my previous best) Starting one of the Joe Friel training plans on TP end of October, and from what I can see I’m ahead of the plan already. Entered for my first Comrades as well, but will have to see how that pans out, I’m a bit unsure on how to tackle both at the moment.

Thanks will have a look at that base program and create a training peaks account.

I now have a goal for Feb - Dubai 70.3! So I suspect I'll also be signing up for PE soon, I've been struggling to find motivation for getting into it again. Hopefully this'll spark something.

Also got Comrades to conquer again next year - got to get that back2back medal!

I don't know it, but the closer the better. We stayed at the Radisson last year, which is obviously super nice but was a bit of a walk. The day before the race (and we were a bit dumb about it too) I think we walked about 15km's to and fro... not ideal

My motivation has also been up and down. One week I slack off so badly, the next week I train super hard and into this vicious circle I go. Not training for PE, but EL. Still think I need a way bigger base before I commit to PE.

My distances for the last 6 months have been (Cycling | Running | Swimming):

May               297 |  55  | 12

June              295 |  63  | 17

July               320 |  64  | 24

August          244 |  45  | 8

September    465 |  70  | 10

October*       356 |  69  | 6

*Estimated by month end.

My swimming has dropped off significantly.  :whistling:

Agreed the closer to Hobie Beach the better.

Some training motivation:
