Hip bags, fanny packs... is this a thing now?

My pack is the Dakine Amp 25l. 3l bladder and 22l storage space. Always in my car.

Is that because you're always riding with the hip bag or you always have the pack in the car ready to go? Which bag do you have and would you recommend them for the trails around Cape town which tend to be less than 25kms and a couple of hours riding?

Hip bag has seen less use over the past while, for some reason. The AMP is my go-to pack for rides, tbh. It's always packed with my tools, pumps etc.

If you are going to carry a pack, then carry a pack !

This is my choice, even if I'm going for a 5km fun ride

In case you decide to sleep over somewhere, or for weight training on those 5km rides?

What are those pocket things on the back of your cycling shirt for then???

Or, is this an enduro shirt (ie no pockets) + fannypack thing?

Seems like a solution to a self-made problem.

only use a shuttle when we do Paarl. But no, keep them in the bag / pants just in case there's a professional redistribution officer in the vicinity.

none of my shirts have pockets. And if I came off and landed on my back, I doubt I'd want anything in there either.

Tight shirts and pockets are good for my road riding kit but on the mountain when you're moving about more I always find that everything wobbles about and clatters which is ultra annoying. Also my bike doesn't have water bottle mounts and a bottle in the back pocket would drive me crazy. I wear one of the Westpeak shirts and no pockets there so back pack or fanny pack.

I think she has been left speechless by the allure of men on bikes sporting fanny packs. It's a powerful thing.
