Joanna van de Winkel for queen!  To mix it with the international pro's after a long break shows her class.  Her win in 2009 (and Hanco Kaggelhoffer's exploits the same year) inspired me to do my first in 2010.  Yesterday was a PB for me - ok by a few seconds - but a great day out.

On her way for the win in 2009

Congrats, the route changes almost every year. I've ridden since 2001 and found this route the toughest its been.

Not an expert and did my 7th in a row yesterday, but I must agree with you on this...toughest route since I started.

Finished 2 laps.

Lap 1 was 2:41 - was hoping for that sub 2:40... alas did not happen like that.

  • 187.0km
  • 7:38:54
    Moving Time
  • 2,628m
    Elevation
Bad pic - waiting for the other pictures to be loaded... later helped another ice cream bike to the Finish.

Thanks David and well done on your PB.

Talent, hard work and the best training partner ;)

Was also in VB and managed 2h28. Fell off the main bunch going up Cedar and that took its toll going through Steyn City. But overall an awesome ride!

What's up with the Racetec timing in VB!

Surely in this day and age results / timing should be done at the finish line and not 50-100m before.

E.g. I beat Jono Cloete by a handful of seconds and he's listed 8th and I'm 11th... what a joke!

End of RANT ;)

My 6th and I couldn't agree more....it was tough. I see no point in the finish being so hard the sad part about it is that majority of participants are weekend warriors and this race is suppose to be fun. There were more people walking to the finish than riding for the guys that started late and this is suppose to be a cycle race.

in my opinion the Organizers need to change the route to accommodate for the masses.

First bold part....The last 300m is downhill

Second bold part..like you said its a race so I dont see what the problem is?

Or Or Or maybe people could just train for it? Heaven forbid

Somebody I know took 90+ minutes off her time from last year. I was super impressed.

Rookie85's comments about the DL start is very accurate.

My ITB didn't hold up too well and I got spat out the back just before turning into the R55 and just couldn't hold with any of the passing bunches so pretty much solo from there.

Got back in 3:21 and opted to visit the physio instead of start the double lap.

Was disappointing I couldn't get back around to help the charity bunch, but I stuck around in the hospitality area for our charity and got to see them come home after quite a lot of bad luck on the road with punctures and such.

I was actually commenting to somebody that it was quite nice being there so late in the day for a change and seeing the elation of those who are not regular cyclists just being elated to finish. Very different to get in, ride like a bat out hell, and then get out, followed by us complaining about shaving off seconds. :P

I must apologize for the pace up Summit & R55 as I was a contributor    needed to start the second lap by 8:50 as one of our group need to drive back to Duban before sundown.

Had an awesome day out - organisation was fantastic, really enjoyed the route and just a really cool vibe. Did this race about 8 years ago and amazing to  see the difference between then and now - I am a lot fitter now - fitness is directly proportional to amount of fun had on the day!!!

If you make it easier, the masses will just train less.  If that is possible :-)
