Hang on a sec. Your wife has a R10k mtb and you wanna buy a bike for R130k? Before you make your decision, spend R40k on a new bike for your wife. Then decide if you can afford/need the s-works.

Not being critical of the op, but it is such a male thing to undermine woman's sport and express this financially.

Thats a bit harsh, maybe she's not into sport.

How do you know he hasn't bought her a top of the range washing machine, dishwasher, or iron and ironing board?

Or she can use her own money and buy herself a bicycle. This husband has to buy wife stuff before he can spoil himself is antiquated and stupid.

or maybe she has no real interest in the sport .... speaking from my personal experience here.

The question people are addressing is whether we really need top of the range components on our bikes.

...

Measured against THAT question - heck no ....

Thankfully there is more to life than the "bare minimum".

Sadly I am not at the Swork stage of life ,,,, heck, still trying to get to the Spez stage of life ..... but happy for those that have made it there

Let' not forget, it is that top few spenders that spur development, that ultimately filter down to the rest of us .... THANKS

okayyyy, close enough to Friday ... I will take the bait

Few years back I bought a second hand motorcycle - BMW 650 GS.

Husband wanted the new 1200GS Adventure ... to sooth his consience he buys his wife a new motorbike as well ... trading her 650GS in for the new 800 model ....

Pretty sure he felt chuffed that he did not undermine her growth .....

But then again ...

- Both bikes bought on debt, both previous bikes still had outstanding debt ... ooo, sorry wrong thread

- her 650 had the sum total 1 500 km on the clock, in about 18 months !!  But, hey let's make more debt because she needs a new bike .....

sorry, but how he and she spend their money may just possibly be a reflection of HER will to ride, or lack of it .....

I KNOW that I have TRIED to get my wife into cycling ..... even considered an e-bike for her .... not her thing

But as Patch has said, a couple of times, none of these posts answer the OP's question .... in fact I think only 2 or 3 replies out of 8 pages applies ....

I definitely want to... It's just that the financial manager (a.k.a. my lovely wife) doesn't quite see it that way! She is super happy on her R10k GT Zaskar.

But you arent buying it for her... and what she doesnt know wont hurt her   :whistling:

You gotta just love the hub don't you!

Let me throw in my 10 cents worth of sexist advice. Spoil the wife with a new bike and make her happy (she must just cringe being seen on a R10k clunker), as a result you will get to ride her more often, you'll be more satisfied and you won't have a need for a R130k totie extension anymore  :P
