B20PV Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 Pottie: 43rd @ 3:43.997Stephan: 48th @ 3:44.912 Sad for both Mick Hannah and of course for Greg.Mick missed out being world champ at his home track by just 0.339, that must've stung a bit.
Morne Veer Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 How did Pottie and Stephan do? Pottie was 43rd and Stef was 48th, out of 70 starters, with both riders getting proper TV coverage and looking ever so good in SA colors.....Pottie even sitting on Oprah's coach for a while, whilst Sam probably got saddle soars from sitting there the longest.
Odinson Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 I don't think Tracey was too knocked about in her crash, but just laid there in exasperation of her mistake, thinking about how she wasted her opportunity to take the rainbow stripes. If she had jumped straight back on her bike, she could've had it.
Odinson Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 I think Hill could've pushed harder on the sprint. It kinda looked like he was pedalling at 80% capacity. Stoked for Bruni, bummed for Mik.
MrJacques Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Gutted for Mick. So close. I'm hopeful for next season, seems like the new bike works for him.
Kranswurm Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 funk that......this is the first time rbtv has dropped us.....there really is nothing that dstv offers that I can justify paying their high fees for.....life's little good choices I would sayMy DSTV is value for money.Just this weekend dished up a feast for the cycling fan.Cairns,Tour of Britain and a wonderful Vuelta where Saturdays stage was worth the monthly subscription alone.Cannot wait for Worlds in Bergen.Would give my eye teeth to be there but the box is second best
Simon123 Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Still will NEVER support RB TV again. Didn't know DSTV would enforce their deal with UCI, so a few friends came over and we were going to do breakfast and watch, then hit Tokai. Instead we tried a bit, I tried to use a DNS service without success, and instead we tweaked a bike or two, swapped a tyre, had a ripping (to be felt later) breakfast and then all hit Tokai... stayed off social media, and then watched later. Was a cracker of a day. All cycled to Muizenberg Beach later for a late lunch.
PhilipV Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 I'm sorry, but seeing all that pedaling was super lame. This course sucked.

Capricorn Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 I think Rachel's dominance is behind for now. Will see what happens next season though. If only Tracey had taken a bit quicker to get up... Her and tahnee looked heads and shoulders above the rest yes, its behind for the moment because she's clearly not yet at full strength. The other ladies are not magically going to find their mojo and beat her when she's at her best. Too many years haven proven it: she's a dude with long hair where they are concerned. She's to them and DH what Tracey Moseley is to Cecile Ravenel and EWS: CR can win a million races in a row, IF TM ain't there. But the second TiMo shows up fully good to go, CR is racing for second.
nigelhicks Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 I'm sorry, but seeing all that pedaling was super lame. This course sucked. Yes I agree that it wasnt the greatest to watch the riders pedal along a flat section for most of the coverage - HOWEVER .... the camera positioning does not in anyway make the entire course "suck" Let me explain - The Cairns track has a total elevation drop of 300m over 1.9km - avg -18.7% (compared with PMB at 416 over 3km - avg -14.5%)Although there are 2 "transfer" sections across the ridgeline to get around a "koppie" in the middle of the track the top and middle of the track are exceptionally technical. There are tons of roots and holes that dont show up on camera ... This combined with the narrow nature of the trail makes it a very tough track to race on ... BUT the issue comes down to what is portrayed on TV! ... The issue here is that the LIVE feed cannot ever show all the course - and is limited to only showing the bottom minute or so of each riders run (except when the splits go to 3 minutes for the top riders) ... As each rider takes say 3 minutes to complete a course, but riders leave the start hut at 1 minute intervals Red Bull actually only get a small window to show the rider live - and this is at the end of their runs.So the start and the upper sections of the course are actually pre-recorded and staggered as a delayed feed for each rider and then added to the publication as that rider is on track and about to come into view on the live feed .... this is why as with Tanhee's run the one camera sat there and waited for her to come into view ... as the top had been prerecorded and delayed and that was the first actual LIVE camera. ... So it is just unfortunate for the TV crews that the section that they were able to film was a flat sprint at the end of a pretty gnarly track. There could have been the option to maybe put 2 of the cameras as a middle delayed feed for the Cyclone and Micks Huck and the woops, (we did this in PMB), but it means dragging km after km of cabling up the hill for each camera position ... as they are connected directly by fibre line to the productions video booth and dont run on TV signal etc. So unfortunately we as the viewer miss out on seeing some really cool sections and racing due to logistical reasons ... and then what we do see gives the track a bad rep .... Its a pity, but we need to remember that (maybe not for Worlds, but the World Cups for sure) the coverage is FREE! ... any free coverage in my mind is GREAT coverage ... Check this out and it will give you an idea of what goes into the broadcast ...It is a CRAZY amount of logistics ... it blew my mind when we had to set it up for the world cups and champs here in SA ... https://www.redbull.com/za-en/lights-camera... ------- On a side note - the World Champs always actually has cr#p coverage - due to the licencing agreements between the UCI and Red Bull and the organisers of the event - same happened here in SA in 2013 if i recall ....

I get that it is not that simple, BUT this is 2017. If there are issues with getting the product out there - then the people in charge need to sort them out. DH is awesome TV, it just needs some tweaks to make it a much bigger thing, and by limiting rights (thereby throwing away redbull.tv that is the best way to watch it in the first place) you're taking a step backwards. Io say it is always cr#p means someone is not doing their job, they need to get off their high horse or let someone else do it. It's like the debacle from freecaster.tv taught them nothing, I can't can only find that as unacceptable.

RB was only brought into the game later on, once the exclusivity agreements had been tied up with the various broadcasting agencies / companies in the respective countries. The only way RBTV would have been able to broadcast is by honouring those agreements.

Ya I dont understand the limiting of the presenting rights for Worlds ... that has always been very vague - but I think it is a way for the event organiser (as it is a standalone event) to make money off the event after having to shell out an absolute BUTTLOAD of cash for the presenting rights to host the World Championships .... Although it is 2017 - this doesnt however change the fact that there is just not enough time between riders to show the entire course - no matter what the budget is or the amount of equipment ... its just physically (time-based) not possible ...

Ya - its not Red Bulls call - and if i remember its not the UCI either - the UCI sell the hosting rights of the event - then its up to the event organiser in the country that is hosting the event to contract the video crew and they can then gain back revenue by selling the TV rights ... I THINK!!!
