Hi

Our mate, Ronald, got knocked down in a hit and run just before Avianto heading towards the highway, happened at about 09h15. According to people who saw it, car was a white Tata driven by a woman. The front fender was already damaged/hanging loose. She apparently turned and around and drove back past the scene but like the coward she is, did not stop to check.

He has suffered a bad elbow injury and the expected bruises from the hard landing. He is currently undergoing checks to determine the extent of the injury.

Long shot but if anybody saw the incident or the car would really like to try and track her down.

Cars becoming increasingly more brazen and dangerous in the Cradle.

Not good!

The Cradle is espacially busy this time of year, leading up to 94.7

I'm glad he is okay

Why do drivers hit and run, are they drunk or high on something, if not what sane sober person would be so cold/callous as to knock a person off their bike and just drive away?

Look for cctv cameras up and down the road, even kilometers away, she would have had to pass one at some point, you know the make/colour, just need to get the plate.

So angry! We didn't see anything sadly. Hope your mate is ok and that he will recover soon.

The Cradle was extremely busy today, with many very large groups, forcing cars to drive on opposite sides of the road, and for some reason there were so many taxis around as well. Also, plenty traffic from early in the morning (around 7am). Was definitely much busier than usual.

Please keep us up to date. Hope this woman is tracked down and taught a lesson.

Could well be a local but even if you find the car you may not prove who was driving it or even if it was the correct car.

as above, unless you are driving illegally for any reason, why the hell wouldn't you stop??

I think most of the time they just dont understand the rules of the road. Which makes me wonder how they passed their drivers in the first place!

Sorry to hear and best wishes to Ronald. Maybe you could find potential witnesses via STRAVA Flybys?

I only started riding in the cradle a month ago and besides loving the roads and community I really find it scary how reckless people are driving (also with bikes on the back of their cars) - especially the motorbikes though.

I was wondering if there are or have been any approaches (maybe by the clubs and / or businesses?) to try and make it more safe, create awareness, get police there, IDK?

I suggest you guys go chat to Garth (owner of Bidon Bistro), he is a local (obvioulsy) and might just know who drives said Tata if they are indeed local?

There are lots of CCTV cameras around Bidon. Maybe the car can be picked up on those?

There may even be some at the entrance to Kloofzicht - but I can't swear on that.

Cradle was a dog show today. Lots and lots of riders all over the place, doing random u-turns, 5-6 abreast.

Not victim blaming, but this time of year that place is dangerous.

Crazy out there on weekends

Yip on tarmac it was mayhem. Nearly no-one on the trails though

Not trying to take away the seriousness of the hit and run, but it really was a dog show. Saw a rider overtaking a slower group, but he failed to check over his shoulder and managed to move into the path of an oncoming car. Car managed to swerve out. Thankfully there was no oncoming cars.

I am fairly new to cycling (since May) and had so many people pass on my left, or had plenty cyclists pass so close that my front wheel almost caught their back wheel. Felt like a group was also forcing me off the road as they kept coming so close to me. Is that normal practice?

Also saw a collision at the turnaround point after Caves between a tandem and another rider. Was a proper accident as the place was chaotic, and people were stopping in random spots where traffic should be moving through. The whole group started swearing and shouting at each other. Was quite a show. Think I have been put off group riding.
