Exactly the same experience... My chain line WAS wrong though. Bend it back slowly and gently with an adjustable spanner. I got another 1500km out of mine.

Just make sure you keep your pedal strokes nice and even.

And don't shift under power!

I hear some amazing drivetrain noises out on the mountain...

Happened to the 42t on my 10spd 11-42 Sunrace. I am now much more careful to prevent shifting under load. Maybe the previous max of 36t was more forgiving on less than ideal shifting.

FWIW, running triple to 1x conversion and chainring is mounted on the inner blade of triple.

Except for the above, so far, not a problem since.

Sounds like a pretty common problem with Sunrace cassettes. I have seen single missing teeth on the biggest cog.

My guess is that it happens under high load when changing from first gear to second. That last link of chain is being pulled down but hasn't properly disengaged.

Or when you change down from 3 to 2 but you over-shift a bit and one or two chain links ride up to the 1st cog.

Glad to hear that I’m not the only one that’s had this issue!

Managed to kind of get it straight but have sent my bike in to get the chain line checked and hopefully it will return back as good as new!

With only 300km on the cassette, a new one would be heart breaking!

I have the Sram nx 11speed 11-42, all steel. I am considering going for the 11-50 Sunrace, but reading this thread makes me sceptical. Is it really a common problem?

This issue is not limited to sunrace cassettes. My W2W partner bent his 36 cog on a 2X10 SRAM setup last week. Same issues where suddenly he had shifting issues. Got to the next WP and the helpful mechanics had a look and showed us the bent cog. We still unclear on how it happened. However I do find him to be be a heavy handed shifter at times and can only think it happened under a bit of torque.

almost certainly down to bad shifting practices.

Also - almost all cassettes use alu for their larger rings.

I remember hearing lots of this last week in the W2W when I rode. Especially the switchback climbs. People in general are very hard handed with their gear and just do not know how to look after it properly in a multi-stage race. I had to give my own wife a talking to.

Shifting under full power is life!

I love the crunching sounds the cassette makes.

To me it makes a kind of 'kaching' noise. Like a cash register.
