Hi there

I am looking for a set of low cost carbon clincher wheels for my roadbike.

My only options so far are Concept - Can't help till January and a bike shop in the W Cape.

\I'm NOT looking for used, and price b=needs to be around 10k or a tad more....

Must be available to see in JHB...

947 Expo? May be a few specials?

I can recommend Concept (Leonard). The short wait could be worth it......

I used to roll with some cheap carbon clinchers, loved them. The front wheel melted coming down De Beers pass in a race this year at Ladysmith, now I stick to my Mavics.

If you doing some long descents, put the old wheels back on for the day.

Check out light-bicycle.com. I have built up road, mountain and DH wheels from their rims. Only one problem which was replaced in a flash.  You are welcome to check mine out (Kyalami)

I have some light-bicycle 45mm clinchers. You can get them on DT Swiss hubs which makes for a great set. Definitely worth checking out.

playing with your safety going cheap imo.

a good set of alu wheels is better than a cheap set of carbon.

i had a set of Dark Horse wheels disintegrate on me.

i will only ever trust real brands with the budget for research going forward.

that's weird, My set were superb, And seeing that Pro teams are using them, and they go alot faster alot more often than I do, it's surprising to hear what happened to yours.

both front and back started folding.

it was the new gen model with the U shaped rims.

my mates front wheel did exactly the same a few months later.

we both had them warranty replaced (good service by DH in that regard). and sold them immediately

You can buy a cheap wheelset for the cost of the Light-Bicycle rims so I wouldn't call them cheap.  They only make wheels so I think they have a grip on what they are doing.  I also like to deal with the manufacturer direct rather than a rebranded supplier.  Like all wheels they are only as good as the build so if you put in enough spokes and crosses for the application they should last well.  I have replaced spokes on the Dark Horse rims - fortunately they have J bend spokes so you can drop all the radial patterns for 2 cross which gives a stronger wheel.  I have also worked on most other brands and believe me a brand name does not mean no problems!
