Just checking what people spend on a coach, I need to get more scientific with my training and i find the time it takes to read the books watch vids etc is too much right now.

I'm no where close to being a pro im B seeded but have seen others really progress from having a coach that take the guess work out on a lot of things for them.

Thx in advance

From what I know, it varies from around R650 for monthly feedback to nearly R2000 for weekly / session-by-session responses, depending on the coaching facility.

My coach is under R1000 per month.  She finds out what your goals are, your ability to train in terms of volume and sets out a 6 month plan.

She loads training programmes in two week increments, tracks progress, monitors results and your Training Peaks numbers and adjusts next blocks plan accordingly with comments.

Alternatively, you can contact TP directly - but you pay is USD - so more expensive.

B seeding needing a coach?

A seeding and Licensed Vets are both attainable on just JRA and TITS.

Above is based on assumption of being in reasonable physical condition and not only wheel sucking on training rides.

Trainer Road for the win!

Not monitored by someone, but I have seen big improvements from a structured weekly program.

Coaches are better but you pay for it.

If you are racing mtbs then you'll probably get faster gainzzzz by going to a skills coach.

But a structured training plan will help a lot. Pretty soon you'll pick up how it works and can then build your plans yourself.

Why do you want to improve your seeding rapidly? There are many skills besides pure fitness that are learnt over time. Bunch riding in a race is a big one. You can be ultra fit but find yourself in the wind and badly placed in the group you are going to find yourself struggling.

My view on coaches, if you get more enjoyment out of cycling because of it, go for it. You certainly don’t need one to do well at cycling.

That being said I would suggest Jarryd from science to sport that rides for us [emoji16]

Personally not coached, I just try hang onto the LPC boys some mornings!

Does one feel more committed when using a coach? If thats the case i think i must get a coach....i actually need a PTI instructor just to chase the crap out of me.

I find it definitely makes a big difference.

If you creating workouts yourself, you tend to become lazy and don't push yourself.

My coach has made me develop a lot in two years - worth every cent IMO. I pay R900 a month

I wanted the same thing as you, after trawling the interenet i settled on a 1 year subscription with TrainerRoad so the planned training blocks and sessions are sorted, I run it on an old TACX Flow IDT using an old IPAD2 with my GARMIN ANT+ speed and cadence sensor with a wahoo 30 pin dongle. I then educated myself on how to read a performance management chart and downloaded a free one off the net. Us my TSS scores and basically coach myself.

I take the TSS scores off the TR sessions and enter them on the PMC which gives a graph of your TSB / ATL / CTL. /this wat you can plan your form to be ready at a certain date for a race.

The only thing I lack is working out my TSS score for weekend out rides as i don't have a Power meter on my bike. Si still looking for a solution for this one
