Is tubeless for a road bike any good?

Then you doing it wrong, I don't have an issue removing tyres from my Tubeless wheels, although I must add, I am not running them as tubeless yet though. but, unseat the tyre from the rim bead, I do not have an issue as all.

I pinch on the opposite side to the valve, push the tyre away form the rim, stick a tyre lever in and undo the tyre from the rim. What also helps is, pinching the tyre from the rim all the way around on the same side you intend to remove the tyre from (I hope that makes any sense)

Yeah been cycling for about 25 years so think I know how to remove a tyre.

Yip, American Classic Argent's with Schwalbe Pro One's.  You'd swear the tyre was glued to the rim!!!

:D

I didn't mean it like that man! I know that removing a tyre from a tubeless rim, does take a little more effort than a non-tubeless conventional rim. ;)

Just FYI, I tried to fit the Schwalbe Pro One's to a Mavic Ksyrium Elite which was not tubeless compatible. I thought I would give it a try since the spokes are sealed in. Could not get the tyre on, no way,no how. They slipped straight onto the AC Victory 30's

Tubeless sounds cool on a road bike. However I dont ride mine often enough to warrant that route. I am happy with tubes anyway. I can also add some sealant to them if the valve core is removable.

Have been looking at the Mavic UST tubeless set up, fairly new i think, youtubed the guy at mavic doing sales blurb, quite impressive, rims, tyres and skewers supplied as a set (from Mavic) to bike shop.

The tyres designed for those rims specifically, so tolerances are exact to allow seating of tyre and easy removal on the road should you need to.

Looked at Cosmic elite ust, 30mm aeroish, pretty cool at the price, 6.7k for the complete setup.

One youtube vid had guys riding over nails and a whole bunch of other puncture inducing nasties, guy stops, spins the rim, seals up, off he goes, even stuck a boxcutter blade in sidewall, sealed, amazing.

Think tyres about a grand a pop if you have ridden them klaar.

Point is if you get the correct tyres that are specced for the rim, changing them out seems easy, they got tyre off quick sticks with one lever.

Another thing to remember which I came unstuck with yesterday is the need for one of those foot pumps that rapidly inflate, like a gas bomb. When the tyres were brand new I inflated them with a normal footpath, yesterday I had to go to the petrol station which was a pain

Good afternoon and happy new year!

Over the past few rides, I've been experiencing a lot of punctures. I want to buy new rims and am considering tubeless, any opinions?

Hi there,

I bought a new bike last year with tubleless rims and tyres, converted them to tubeless, and had happy 2000km of no worries.

Then the tyres got worn, and because of the price (an me being a cheapskate) of tyres, I put on clinchers, I have had a couple of punctures after that.

My plan:

* Because my racing carbon wheels are tubeless, I wil put some fancy schmancy tubeless tyres on there and just not have any worries in a race.

* My training wheels will have to stay normal tyres.

Thoughts:

* As someone said before, regurarly check your fluids. If it is dry, it cannot seal punctures. When I took off my worn tubeless tyres I was surpried to see all the small thorns and stuff that the sealant closed up which I did not even know about!

* They tyres wear VERY quickly, Like I said, I only got about 2500 km on mine... Not the best though (Giant Gavia), but still.

* The tubeless tyres are FAR more comfortable than the normal clinchers. I ran mine 5.5bar front and 6bar back, and it is a dream on bumpy roads!

I didn't read all the other posts, so sorry if I said something someone else did already.

Just my 2c.

If you have any specific questions, PM me.

Yeah, I would have preferred a Conti or similar, but hey... if you dont try you never know. I'll keep posting feedback as I use them more. My riding partner has used them for a while and he seems happy so far.

I did see that some guys now stock a new Mavic 28c tubeless, would have chosen that but apparently wont fit in my road frame....

So how's the tubeless treating you so far? Your thoughts?

Done a few rides, and so far it feels like the right choice. Comfort and confidence of the lower pressures is nice.

Dont want to jinx it though by declaring "tubeless is only option, finish n klaar" just yet.

What made you decide on the Hutchinsons?

I'm still on the fence deciding to go tubeless or not. Getting a lot of mixed feedback.

Wasn't Hutchinson one of the TL pioneers.?

Why would one not go with them.? ;)

Mavic I reckon

Very understated but they have revolutionized much of the wheel tech over the decades
