Permits on Handlebars

First world problems....

So I have 3 different bikes and 3 different year permits, all of which have to be displayed on the handlebars. I like my bikes neat, and moving the permits from bike to bike is a hassle, so my solution was to put the permits on my hydration pack which I always wear. Unfortunately my clever solution does not work as I have been stopped on various occasions by people asking me where my permit is - "Please display on your handlebar" is the standard reply I get. It's understandable, it's the rules, and I accepted the T&Cs, I am not complaining about it. Makes sense that farmers and land owners must easily see if you have a permit or not and the handlebars are the most logical place to mount permits.

So... what solutions do you guys have for temporarily putting a number board on handlebars?

I find using cable ties to be a bit of admin, and I have scored my handlebars before removing them. Temporary cable ties were my next go to, but when I cut them to a "neat length" once the permit is on the handlebars, it is hard to re-use the cable tie as it is now too short to work with...

Pump-straps : those velcro straps used to keep a small pump in place.

It is neat, and fits perfectly in the slots provided in the boards.

I bought at Sportsmans wharehouse, R15 per strap.

PS - it is NOT kept on the floor.  I had to ask for it, then they get it from the back storage area .....

Last years Van Gaalens permit boards had two pieces of velcro that strapped around the bars.

Cut slots into your permits and slide some velcro in?

Lol this whole time my solution were limited to things that could fit in the tiny little round holes - never thought about making bigger holes. Excellent idea, I will get some velcro straps today

As mentioned already Velcro Straps, alternatively request a duplicate of your membersip board & offer to pay for it.

:offtopic: Just a side note, not aimed at the OP but for the guys that swear it must not go on the handlebars, remember where the board goes when you participate in Race Events, you gladly put it wear it is meant to be displayed no questions, no arguments. Also if you ride with a membership board everyday then Race Days it won't feel like you are riding into a headwind with a garage-door strapped to your handlebar. #useitdontuseit

or you can send 2 x bikes down to me in CT and I can "look after" them for you ... that means you only have one bike to worry about :P

Hahaha that seems like a very logical solution to my problem!

I mount my board on back of the lowers arch, so it doesn't interfere with the cable or my light on night rides. You could easily build a frame to mount there that allows you to interchange boards as needed.

The boards for the Tygerberg MTB actually comes with slots for velcro

+ 1 for Velcro straps here. Those mounting boards on other places than what the trail owners prescribe is making unnecessary waves for law abiding trail users. While it seems trivial to you, it is one of the conditions you agree to when signing up. If you don’t like the rule, apply for a departure.

Had a similar problem a while ago. I made this using some reflector mounts that came on my bike. Number board can be swopped between bikes with a single screw. Its more work than velcro but its very secure and zero rubbing on the handlebar, potentially ruining its finish.

Plus its a recipe to just spoil your day out riding the trails, because you are going to be stopped at least 5 times by one of the +50 marshals the Tygerberg Club currently has.
