Run the Scoop flat on both my mtb and road bikes. I find they work really well for me, I did notice a weird creak where the rails connect into the saddle, but sprayed a bit of silicone release spray and problem gone. But saddles are super personal of course.

I've borrowed a Scoop shallow to try out.

Second ride so far, not sure I'm convinced.

First ride I left the seatpost at the same height I had it with the Arione, but I realised the Fabric sits higher off the rails, so last night I dropped the height to compensate.

I also noticed when setting it up that to get it level I had to drop the nose substantially vs the setting the Arione was on.

I think the biggest problem is the Arione is a rather narrow saddle and more than 10 years of my saddle and ass mashing into each other they moulded into each others imperfections.

The Scoop is wider (even though its apparently the right width for my ass) so the pressure is now on different spots to what I'm used to.

Going to give the butt a rest tomorrow, do a short ride on saturday and a longer one on sunday to see how it feels.

Thread resurrection

After the wet CTCT I did not give the saddle/seatpost any attention other than a clean.

I started to hear a creak whilst sitting and pedaling. After making sure it was not my joint I decided this weekend to take the saddle off, clean up everything and put some grease on the contact points.

This is when I discovered a crack in my Fizik Arione. It probably happened a while back as I noticed a deformation along the one side months ago but did not investigate it.

So now I'm looking for a replacement. Fabric Scoop seems like THE saddle to get. Now just to find one to demo and also at a good price.

I missed out on one in the classifieds, it was sold this weekend.

So, anyone know of a place in gauteng that has them at a good price. Cyclelab has them at R1199 and I'm sure they probably have demo units to test.

where are you based? I have the carbon rail version you can try and if you like it make me an offer

I'm busy trying a chromo rail version now. Thanks. See above I'm not sure my butt likes them.

Have you tried a Spez Power Saddle?

I proper one, not the ryder one?

I am a believer

if you're running the Scoop shallow, but width is an issue, maybe check out the Line.

Scoop only comes in 142mm, while the Line is mainly available in the 134mm, but only the Shallow profile (no flat or radius).

I've got Scoop Shallow with different rails on all my bikes. Had a Line for a while, thinking the relief channel would be a win. it was torture and i ended up with saddle sores. what a difference 8mm makes.

local retail prices are insane - I've been eyeing another off the CRC clearance sale.

not yet

I went through the same earlier this year.

The Specialized Power saddle got rave reviews .... but outside my budget

My LBS convinced me to try Sella Iitalia

Took a few rides to get used to it.   I certainly was not convinced after 2 rides .... now  I LOVE this saddle !!!  More than 5 hour rides and I ready tomorrow for more time in the saddle.

The Specialized Power saddles are great. However after having three break / crack on me I decided to change. All three cracked on the same place inside the hollow channel. In saying that all three where replaced under warranty, but who want something that breaks all the time. I had enough, moved over to a Fabric Line-S Pro Team had to import from CRC. Very comfortable !

On the same model. It basically disappears while you ride. Extremely comfortable for something that looks so slim and hard.

That sounds very uncomfortable 😎
