Except when they are killing burry

Or Lynette, or putting my friend in ICU for weeks, or knocking that guy off his bike in the yellow lane on In front of Eagle Canyon (there was a video).

But, I must say that I am more scared of drivers in their big bakkies and the Nouveau Riche who think that speeding in the emergency lane is cool.

yeah, it's a case of get left when it's safe. If "safe" means once you've passed all those 80kph okes, or have a small gap you can quickly zip into and back out of with a string of cars, then that's fine. But can't hog the rh lane forever.

You can see how this would happen with some of those road-trains that the long distance haulage guys get when driving between the provinces. Looooong sections where there's just no way to get into the left hand lane, and in that case the guy behind just needs to wait until it's safe for you to get into the left.

Yup, completely agree with you. It also happens often in afternoon traffic - many people don't seem to understand the move over when safe concept - it's either drive 150 or move, and that doesn't fly with me. But anyway - judging by the way most people drive my opinions are in the minority.

The other problem with high traffic situation is the "quick" zip into the left lane means you stay there for a while behind the slower traffic because there are another 10 guys behind the one passing you all wanting to drive even faster than the guy in front of them.

The real solution is for people to stop speeding - but that's like wishing for the lemon tree in my back yard to start producing R200 notes instead of fruit.

Joburg to Durban N3 is very much like this. I irritated a lot of people the other day cruising 120 past the endless line of trucks filling the left lane.

Average speed cameras are *** and I don't want to throw money away to whomever is sitting in an office operating them.

Good point, let me perhaps add a bit more context...

I am not advocating that that people hold up drivers behind them in the right hand lane who want to pass at more than 120km/h (albeit that they are all breaking the law). What I am saying is that those people should not be doing more than 120km/h in the first place, nor should they feel they are more entitled to a piece of road than I am, purely because they are going faster. To put it differently, say said driver who wanted to overtake me did so and lo and behold gets caught by a speeding camera. Is he now entitled to dispute in the fine because he feels he's been done in by not being allowed to travel at more than the speed limit? I'm being a bit facetious but trying to paint a picture. Surely you can't expect me who is within the ambit of the law to slow down to 90km/h and let the person pass. I will do so when there is a gap and it is safe to do so.

Strictly speaking, the other drivers' speed are none of your business as long as you follow the road rules. If they want to speed, you're lawfully not allowed to impede them by hogging the passing lane. If you happen to be passing 50 cars who are in the 2nd lane from the passing lane doing 115, then that is still driving lawfully.

The passing lane hoggers cause said speeding lawbreakers to take action for themselves, then they skip across 2 lanes to the left, overtaking on the left which I understand to be unlawful as well according to the stupid k53 book, thereby endanger often far more people than the single vehicle hogging the passing lane. Also, the stupid k53 indicates that if someone wants to pass you [in the passing lane] you must move over when it is safe to do so. It never says you need to slow down, it does however say you may not speed up to prevent or impede a passing vehicle's movement.

Lane hoggers are one thing, but I cant understand why someone riding much slower than you, pulls out in front of you and just sits there at 80km/h without making an progress to get past the car they trying to overtake.

Or the moron who is in wah too much of a hurry to stop at a stop street, and then continues to drive at 40km/h. What was the point of not stopping then?

red light creepers that creep 2m over the ped crossing lines, but take 10s to respond to the change of colour... Like WTF.

Nothing wrong with this. The issue is with the arseholes who hog the right lane at the speed limit I when the left hand lane is clear. Somehow they feel entitled to be the enforcer when in reality they are also breaking the law as the act stays all traffic to keep left .

Then these tw1ts loose their minds when a cyclist signals to turn right while passing road works in the road. One woman told me I have to dismount my bicycle to cross the road !! Lol

The ignorance is bloody scary

For what it's worth, passing on the left is actually legal in certain situations. I agree that it is the correct thing to do to pull over and let faster cars pass in the passing lane, however I will decide when it is safe to do so, not the person behind me speeding (and I am well within the law to be making the decision on when it is safe). I know it's a long read, but this was actually discussed on MyBB last year. I'd encourage you to read the thread (not sure if I'm allowed to post a link to it here) and pay special attention to the posts by hj2k_x who is an attorney. As he also put it, it doesn't sound sensible for there to be a law one has to follow to allow others to break a law, does it? Again, I am not one of those who hog the right hand lane, I do pull over, but it is my decision on when it is safe to do so.

Driving back on the N3 this weekend - I came up with a brilliant business plan: I'm going to open up a support center for men with tiny penises in Durban... judging by the driving I always see when I travel that highway, I'm going to make an absolute killing

As far as I'm aware such link would be allowed. MyBB doesn't always attract the smartest of users (obviously not referring to you), but I'm willing to have a read.

I'm sure there many more instances where passing on the left is lawful, for instance a 2 lane road where a car is waiting to turn right, you may pass on the left when/if safe to do so. This was mentioned in the stupid k53 too. My previous example was exclusively intended for general highway usage though.

Noice. It was interesting finding out and reading about "Operation Compliance 2". Looking forward to living in Aus!

I'm not sure if you read what I posted to try and understand or rather just to respond? Perhaps you missed the bit where I clearly said I am not one of those lane hoggers, although I suspect that because I have an opinion that differs to yours you have incorrectly assumed I must be a "lane hogger".

The links you posted aren't all that useful. One is based in Australia where they actually have the law to keep left and pass right, and there are signs on the highway to remind road users to do just that. Surely you see the difference?

The other article you posted states: "When you find yourself behind another vehicle that is driving at a slower speed than you are and you are still driving below the posted speed limit, you may briefly change lanes in order to pass the car."

Be all of the above as it may, and if we take a step back, don't you think it's sad that our society has become so lawless and broken that we would rather view someone who is adhering to the law to be a nuisance having purely been put in that situation by others who can't follow the speed limit? I really have no intention to try and change your view (these types of debates rarely have that effect) but I really want you to re-read what I said there about society in general and take a think about it.

Tell me about it! Some of the stuff people post on there also leaves me a bit dumbfounded at times :)

Sure thing, here's the link - https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/if-you-are-driving-120km-h-in-the-fast-lane-should-you-move-over.892202/

It is a long read but it's interesting to see other peoples opinions on things. Probably best to speed read it, in the interests of time.
