20 Elite - 9 Junior

Thats about right normally.

Is it really?..I noticed a lot of women absent though.. But then if it's normally low like that then there absence is going to be noticeable. Farina wasn't there.. And then add Manon who's retired and that's 10% of the field!

Must say I think that the new quali rules and the limitations placed on numbers going through will negatively affect the growth of the sport. Time will tell.

Remember that the regulations state that the top 15 riders in women qualify.

So Im not sure how they got to 20 for Croatia ... but anyway.

All of last year there were 15 riders in the finals.

In quali's though there were 26 riders.

Sorry dudes. But whoever says this isn't a world cup circuit needs their head examined

well that's a subjective question obviously, it sure is/was different to anything we've seen before. I thought the finish through town streets really sucked too

a Big issue for me is the local scene.

from what i can see you've got one croatian in the entire field, and he qualified 33rd in men's junior....what next, circuits in Qatar because they'll stump up the cash?

The local scene is not the issue - they brought in a Polish guy who has organised other world cups to help as event manager.

In our races here we didnt have a big presence either.

The issue is not how many riders you have - but whether you fit the criteria for hosting an event.

here is the link to the generic guide to potential event bidders.

There is lots that has to go into the bid - not just how much cash you have. They are very sticky about courses, but also logistics, accommodation, travel time and value for spectatorships.

Ha ha  - they could do a whole man made mountain thing there - maybe by spraying a large dune with liquid cement, importing some Croatian rocks  and building a road section to finish off at a marina. The trend has been set.

Great venue.

A mate who was there was saying that the track was steeper than it looked on camera (as usual), but was also just awkward ....

So it was good because it was different to whats normally raced. And the racing was close so that was cool.

My issue was the UCI not being as stringent with the safety factors on the track as they have been in the past. Here they were super strict about fall zones and safety features. Just watching the riders between those rock walls made my arse pucker ... if you got that wrong you would be snookered.

But otherwise i think it was a great event.

I love how Rachel in the "proper" interviews was pro the track. .... then in Wyns interview she says its SH#T ....

Just because she didnt win me thinks ...

And she moaned to Dirt Mag in their video series that tracks are not tech enough. Her mother says she's impossible at the best of times so I guess this is an example.

Did you guys see Warner's video where he visits her and has a fat crash?
