Not happy with the 'Dale anymore after testing it Riaan?

I presume you want to buy new, so here are a few options I will look at:

1.) 2018 Specialized Epic Expert @ R78,000

Personally, I feel like with Specialized you get a well-rounded bike, with a beautiful frame and very good components. No need to upgrade something. Maybe the drivetrain and wheels if you are a weight-weenie and want every marginal gain. The only con I can think of is the Brain shock. You either love it or hate it. Did I mention that lovely colour scheme on the frame?

2.) 2018 Giant Anthem Advanced Pro 29er 1 @R73,250

No complaints about the brand and has a good track record. The 'Toyota' of the bicycles. Don't forget the lifetime warranty on the frame!

3.) 2018 Scott Spark RC900 Pro @R79,990

Huge fan of the Scott bikes. I love them a lot. Also the lightest bike in the selection, weighing in at 10,5kg. I am sure Bike Addict would be able to assist with a test ride too before buying.

4.) 2018 Trek Top Fuel 9.8 SL @R78,999

I would say the underdog (underrated) option in the field. I must say the Viper Red colour scheme looks HOT! The Matte Anthracite is also not that bad.

Another option is to browse through the classified section (if you are not that concerned about the warranty on the frame). You will definitely get a much more value bike with basically top of the range components for less.

Also, with the remaining money, I would invest it in a bike fit.

Good luck with your search!

Absolutely agree but would be looking for a demo or very slightly used The Calling for me........

I rode the calling and it’s proper playful. It’s like it’s a small wheeled following mb. If I could have 2 evils that would be 2nd one no doubt.

But for the one bike to do distance, jumps, rocks and anything I can throw at it definitely the following wins. But only due to the 29r wheels.....

a good used bike for 25k and invest the 60 for a rainy day.

(especially large size as they seem the least popular and are therefor more difficult to offload used)

Canyon top end bike with import tax will be a good buy +- R84000 ,the Canyon top end bike is in the same class as the Cannondale Team ,Trek 9.9 and Specialized Epic S-works .

Without hijacking this thread i am in the same place... how would the trek 9.8 and the tallboy3 stack up against each other. both offer great warranties. tough choices when spending this amount on a bike... cant make mistakes at this price point.

Come to think of it i could also buy a CBR 600RR or YZ450wr. not sure the guys will like the yz on the trails  .
