Road Rage!

Do you have any witnesses? If you do, go lay an assault charge and open an accident report. If not, either save your time and walk away or look him up and have a quiet chat about his manners.

Well done on keeping calm though.

OP already tried the calm and quiet chat method, doing it again will bring back the stored emotions at the time of the recurring action.

edit: some people can't be reasoned with- thats where the law steps in, at least in my perception

I was riding Durbanville way in the dark this morning and I was quite chuffed how aware the cars were of me. I even got a thumbs up when I was descending in the middle of the lane, then I get to work and read this. <_<

Kudos to you for keeping your cool. He deserved cleats through front grill, Co2 bombs into windscreen and then the conversation can start. (Not saying that's what I would do  )

Bummer for the OP, but shame to the dwiss in the Fortuner... to be SOOO aggro in the morning while taking the kids to school. Must be a fantastic household. Kids must love daddy.

I should have used comic sans. By quiet chat, I mean help him see the error of his ways. ;)

Terrible to hear, I ride to school with my youngster across Rosmead and to 1st avenue, so many people in such a rush, I am happy to say that when they see a 3 year old on a bike they do use a lot more caution than when they normally pass me.

Hope this guy is found, talked to and is understood and sees the error in his way and changes his approach to driving. Hopefully he will then be a better roll model for his kids.

Cycling on Rosmead Avenue, Cape Town.

Driver tears up behind me and passes recklessly close, throwing his hands in the air.

I catch up to him, ask if he would like some time to explain himself.

He wants to know where he is supposed to find 1m to pass me!

He starts losing his cool, punches me in the face.

I get in front of his car to take photo of number plate.

He drives car into me, sits on the hooter.

I wait for red traffic light, ask if he would like to pull over to talk.

He closes window, disengages.

I still want to engage, have a beer together, discuss better options.

Can anyone help me find this guy?

White, English-speaking man with poor manners, two young kids, CPR sticker on windscreen, and lightning-fast right jab.

Hello Ryan,

“I still want to engage, have a beer together, discuss better options”

I've noticed even with kids sometimes, people just don't give a ****. A while back I walked nephews back from school and at the robots a guy stops halfway over the side walk right in front of us and throws a frothy when I shake my head.

Yeah the number of times I have had to tap on a drivers window to get them off their phones at a robot which is green is laughable.

It's not a waste of your time, the prosecutor will deal with the matter on your behalf. You will only be called in at a stage once the investigation is done to possibly attempt to mediate the matter. Unless you advise the prosecutor that you won't mediate the matter and they must proceed to trial, where you will testify to the events that occurred on the day.

Proceed for our fellow cyclists and road users, the court will make an example of this individual and hopefully prevent other drivers from conducting themselves in a reckless manner on the roads.

Sorry to say, but Prosecutors go after cases that they can win, cases that will boost their performance stats, and cases that are worth it. The OP will have to sit on the Prosecutor and potentially the Director for Public Prosecution to even get any consideration.

I would report this and push for an arrest. If could wangle it, I would have him arrested at his place of work. The embarrassment will be more than enough justice I think.

People in cars are stupid, and full of rage. We really need to learn to relax while behind the wheel.

Agreed.

We must however report crimes when they happen. Its our responsibility to society.
