Whats "respond appropriately"?

ps: What has any of this got to do with Wyatt?

Wyatt will invite him for a beer and a friendly discussion on the merits of his passing maneuver... he is pretty good at responding to left jabs.... should the need arise.

Fight fire with fire. Punch him in the kisser, then get a mountain bike.

This advice was free,

And worth what we paid for it....

Bad one for the Cape - we've just had a 16yr old girl who died after a brick went through their car window - sad days and senseless act.

We are happy cyclist with no intent to harm, please understand that a lot of the commentary on the hub, particularly from me, in blithe and mirthful.

Sad to say laying a charge will accomplish nothing.

the below thread was an incident that involved my ole man.

we took all the pics, had 3 eye witnesses, written and signed statements, followed full procedure.

the case was thrown out - even with the overwhelming evidence against the offender.

Its *** that your case was thrown out. Would still like to know the dudes name.

BUT I think it did accomplish something.... I doubt the moron who did this to your pops will do it again after all the admin. Its not the outcome you (or I) wanted, but good on you for pushing through, I am positive that your effort have made our roads a bit safer.

I roll down the window, "Sorry man but I almost ran you over."

That is exactly how a conversation my brother had with Eben Etzabeth's two uncles started outside Newlands and after a Province loss.

It did not end dignified as he chose the lesser of two evils, abandoned his car and started running.....

Yes, indeed, and the offender now has a mark against his name!

Questions: How does a car driver approaching a cyclist know what distance will exist between them at the point where the cyclist is passed?

And how can this be policed other than when the car hits the cyclist?

Not as hard as you make it out - lets assume the cyclist is 700mm elbow to elbow and common sense says he will keep some more space to his/her left - lets say 300mm... so the total width of the cyclist from the edge of the road can be assumed 1m - plus 1.5m as the gap required - so 2.5m from the edge of the road belongs to the cyclist - this pretty much means that any car overtaking has to cross mostly into the lane to the right in order to overtake legally - if they don't cross at least halfway into the next door lane, then they are definately too close...

Cycling on Rosmead Avenue, Cape Town.

Driver tears up behind me and passes recklessly close, throwing his hands in the air.

I catch up to him, ask if he would like some time to explain himself.

He wants to know where he is supposed to find 1m to pass me!

He starts losing his cool, punches me in the face.

I get in front of his car to take photo of number plate.

He drives car into me, sits on the hooter.

I wait for red traffic light, ask if he would like to pull over to talk.

He closes window, disengages.

I still want to engage, have a beer together, discuss better options.

Can anyone help me find this guy?

White, English-speaking man with poor manners, two young kids, CPR sticker on windscreen, and lightning-fast right jab.

(Photos deleted out of respect for the motorist and his willingness to engage constructively)

He punched you in the face, and drove his car in to you. Yet, you delete his photo out of “respect” to him, and you still wanna have a beer with him.

I don’t understand.

Let me try to clarify: I have done this out of respect for him as a person, a dad and a husband (not a faceless motorist), and because this is what I am asking him to do: to treat me respectfully, as a person, a dad and a husband (not a faceless cyclist). He's willing to engage further so I am prepared to give this approach a shot. I think it might be a better way. Let's see...

He could not care a stuff about you.

He is not on this forum.

Sometimes reality sucks.
