you need to correct that 15 year statement based on our poor rainfall over the last few year :P

I also thought if you had a 2x11 system the cassette was basically just as expensive as a 1x11 cassette because its almost exactly the same?

I think these guys actually just want to ride road bikes :-)

Where is GoLefty, he has some very good and extensive break downs of the gear ratio's and comparisons of going 1 x something vs 2 x systems.

The smaller cassettes are cheaper. But to be honest, 2X10 was just peachy.

We ride from town to the Jonkers, so it is blast having the range of gears. Especially caning it on the way home

as in CT CBD to Jonkers?

I have been riding bikes with front derailleurs for 34 years. I have never had problem with a front derailleur, ever. On MTB bikes in the mud in Stellies between Easter weekend and 1 November, over the period 2000-2010, excluding El Nino periods and unseasonally warm afternoons, or mornings in which frost events have occurred, or mornings after a John Deere special at the Dros, I have never had an issue

I too have been on MTB's for 21 years now, and have dropped the chain a couple of times with a front der, or had poor shifting under adverse conditions....the drive train still worked and having a large chain ring for road sections is nice, but then again I very rarely do road sections anymore on the MTB.

For me a 1 x is more natural in the shifting dept, it also leaves a space where the front shifter would be under the bars for one of the best inventions ever, a lever for a dropper post.

Seriously though, you been MTB'ing for 34 years?

2x9 was better than 3x8

2x10 was better than 2x9

1x10 was better than 2x10

1x11 was better than 1x10

Now 1x12...

I guess they'll have to turn the donkey around before 1x13, that's just unlucky.

You guys must be moer fast by now with all these upgrades

you sound like a good candidate for a 1 x 1 upgrade :P

Back on topic again!

It would be great to see a 12spd from the Big S!

Now is the XD tech patented, or can any company design a cassette around this design and implement their own free hub bodies based on this design?

The XD free hub body design just makes sense, if only it was more cost effective locally though.
