I have been a little out of the MTB scene for a while. I was dusting off my 27.5 steel hard tail Soma and thought that I need to up grade my dual suss.......which is a lovely Zula 26er. Now, I could obtain a Zula 27.5 and switch components but I like my old Soma.

So, in the opinion of you folks in the know..........what would be a recommended 27.5 dual suss Alloy frame trail bike? I am mid 50s and like to think I still give it horns on the downhill bits!! No racing, purely recreational. Budget 35G, and lower if able!! new to 2 years old.

Alloy frame and 27.5 my preference.

Thanks in advance.

Giant Trance 2 all the way. It's probably one of the best built all rounder trail bikes, super playful, punches way above it's weight class when gunning it down hill, great value for money, and pedals extremely well too. All the standards are bang up to date - boost axel spacing, metric trunion mounted rear shock, nice solid fork (Fox 34) and comes with a droppper post and 1x drivetrain.

Other options are the Pyga Pascoe which you can get 2nd hand for a very good price.

Silverback have very awesome 27.5 trail bikes at the moment too. Super good value for money. Trance is always good value for money... Merida have really good value for money trail bikes too. I am just biased towards maestro, so my personal opinion is the Trance.

I'd seriously suggest the Merida One Forty 700, Goes new for 31k. I don't think you can get better spec for the price elsewhere. The reviews on it are also great. A buddy of mine has one and he is seriously enjoying it.

The guys at Bike-addict stock them but reckon your local merida dealer could organise one for you.

+1 for the Trance. Climbs well, handles the rough stuff on the way down and great for long endurance type rides. Proper all-round mtb.

Look at the pyga 110 as well. I was very pleasantly surprised when I borrowed one of these for a spin.

Unfortunately Pyga will not see my money again after the way I was treated when my 110 frame cracked. Love the brand and the story, but will not spend money on them again.
