Route, same direction

Doing Helz so late in the race is going to be interesting, just glad the climb is still from the Stellenbosch side so I have a fighting chance to keep up with the group, from the other side way too steep for my limited climbing abilities.

No big climb to scatter the groups early in the race (not that it really worked that way with Helz at the start)

same route as ppa sportief 2/6 ?

Mostly the same, but you do that extra bit where you turn right to bo-dal-road, which is mostly the only "extra bit", oh and the bit before klapmuts road.

can't see how hellshoogte is better from stellenbosch side to me it's much easier for Pniel side. But yeah having it that late in the race is going to separate the boys from the men.

I only did this because it was a 5km ride from my place in Welgevonden. Definitively not doing it now. At least I still have PPA One Toner.

Have you not heard about the change to the One Toner.....

                            .... just joking

I suspect it will be the last One Toner held in Stellenbosch. Rides are moving out of cities and towns where they cause traffic nightmares. Good example of that is the Cyclo Sportif series.

This route will be rough on the later groups that will hit Hels at midday, in mid summer heat. They are out of their flippen minds. It would have been better in reverse. And starting with lots of flat road to come, the groups will be huuuge. Many bunch crashes I foresee.

Yes, but most of the times the sea breeze helps. I have also been on Chappies when it was around 40 degrees (2011 race I believe). The same conditions on Hels will be much worse.

The last SCT I did I saw nothing besides my cycling cap and the spray from wheel in front of me. Being too hot was not a worry on the day :P
