So with a new bike the time has arrived for new shoes as well.

Before I run to my Favorite bike shop, where do you guys buy your shoes?

What do you have and what do you think about it?

I like the look of the Ryder Bora 2.

I bought at Cycle Lab the KTM MTB ones with those ratchet clips and velcro straps that don't cover the whole shoe velcro strip so it's always full of debris that catches during the ride. I miss my old Spez shoes with plain and simple no-nonsense velcro straps.

I bought a pair of R1600 Shimano road shoes in 2006, and still use them to this day. They look worse for wear but are extremely comfortable (the silver colour looks dirty grey).

I’ve used a pair DMT shoes that lasted half the time, despite only using them a lot less. Also not as wide as Shimano, so struggled comfort wise.

Bought a pair of Sidi from ASG on sale, that I only wear at races, but prefer the Shimano pair. These shoes will probably last for many years as I only race 6-8 races per year.

After quite a couple pairs of shoes I've settled on Specialized for XC (nice wide toe box for comfort, stiff carbon sole, and boa fittings ensures it is evenly tight on my whole foot and not just on one section, and they look pretty good after 2 seasons of use). Will replace with the same once they are worn. I have found Specialized are excellent when it comes to contact points - saddles, grips, shoes, bibs.

Five Ten Maltese Falcon for trail/enduro riding that also requires hike-a-bike - not as comfortable as my Spaz XC shoes but at least I can hike comfortably in them, next time I buy Five Ten's I will get the Kestrel though, the Maltese Falcon's sole is a bit too flexy when pedaling.

Sidi only for me - both mtb and road and mx boots as well.

But I also have 1 pair each of shimano road shoes, Adidas flats and Spez 2fo clips.

Sidi is the only way - look out for specials overseas and get someone to bring them back for you. Works out to about half of what you pay for them here.

I was at ASG last weekend and the Sidi's they have... had to hide my drool. The quality of those shoes look superb, but the price tag matches the looks. They have good specials going as well, but I'd probably not do those shoes justice yet.

I've got Spez (mid range), Gaerne (top of the range), Giro (mid range) and Suplest

Best value for money is Suplest, but you don't get them anymore, Spez is great for a wider fit, Giro slightly narrower.  Both good value for money.

Gaerne is bling!!

Go and try on as most pairs as you can from different brands. Tried on Giro, 2 pairs of Shimano and Specialized. I ende up going with the Spez pair because they fit my feet the best, Three years later and I am still using the same pair.

I've used Specialized road and mtb shoes for years, +/- 2011 I changed to using only S Works mtb shoes only for all my bikes road, tri and mtb (All fitted with Time ATAC pedals). Always buy them from the local Spaz dealer.

This year i bought a new pair of the  S Works mtb shoes and to be honest I'm a bit disappointed with them. Mostly due to the tongue and upper front which i find very uncomfortable, thought they would wear in and get better but they are still uncomfortable. The tongue seems to be a real silly design and to thin for my liking. Probably should bought the mid range instead of the weight weenie top of the range.

I have had 3 pairs of spez and will buy again .Very happy with Mavic ergoride too .I will buy Scott and Giro too .Make sure what you want to use it for .Sidi,s most uncomfortable with that heel cup, bucket business of theirs .Nylon soles are better for MTBing  IMO .Carbon sole good for road

Olympic shoes. South Arican owned brand so after sales support is awesome. Best value for money. I have a pair of Olympic Tread that sells for R1,500 at CWCYCLES.co.za. They last forever, almost too long, and hold candle to some brands that sell for double the price. Do yourself a favour, get a pair. I never looked back and will never buy anything else again.

PS: I read an article that said they are designed to be a bit wider, as the average SA man's feet is not as narrow as the Europeans.

Owned two pairs. There was nothing to complain about in terms if quality, but both the pairs I had were too narrow for me and my feet ended up numb or burning after 30mins of riding, and I found the were not well ventilated. Probably just the fit that was wrong for me - so if you go that route just make sure you try before you buy.

For the road bike, Specialized S-Works for the past 6 years.

For the cross bike, also liked the look of the Ryder Bora's, but not the weight! Just bought a pair of Scott Comp Boa's from Bike Addict at an excellent price (not much more than the Ryder ones).
