You're gonna find mixed responses - people seem to either love it or hate it. Do a bit of a search in the forums - there are a few threads on plus tyres as well as the Stache.

I was one of the first guys to jump on the plus bandwagon because I loved the idea idea. I bought a dual suspension Spaz Stumpjumper 650+, I switched over to 29x2.4" after not too long - came to the conclusion that + tyres and dual suspension is overkill.

I then took the plus wheels and built up a Cotic Solaris Max (steel hardtail), and also ended up switching to 29" wheels after not too long. Basically my opinion of plus wheels is that they do not offer more grip than a nice aggressive 29er tyre, but the wheels are heavy, the squirm under hard cornering, the are slow to accellerate, the steering becomes vague, and the bike is overall more sluggish. I've found a 29×2.4" tyre can give better grip and rolls much faster.

But that's just my opinion - some swear by it, and I do in theory see why, I just never got along with it.

As far as the Stache goes, geometry is spot on, and I have heard nothing but good things about it. Go test ride one - it's the only way you will know if it's for you.

For the same price I bought a Trek Top Fuel instead of a Stache a month ago and regret it. Could have had a unique playful dual purpose fun bike instead have a bike now that everyone else has....

My 2 cents worth, if you want to play on rocky trails , 27.5 + is great and very forgiving. If you want to race 29, 2.4 works much better.

I have both and prefer my plus bike for ride comfort.

Listen to GM. Go test. You may love it. If you don't, you can switch out the rims for niners and sell the 650's which may actually just be wide-ish rims. 35mm rims are perfect for most 2.35-2.6" tyres.

I love my Stache...the tyre pressure is very sensitive - too hard and you bounce around and too soft and the tyre squirms....I am talking a range of less than half a bar...

Just last night I was thinking of trying out a plus size. It's that or getting wider rims for my ht rocket I do love my bike but I want to feel the change don't want to spend 10k on wheels only for it to make a tiny difference.

The generic rear free hub on the Stache 5 gives a lot of issues.

I have had the Fuel EX 29er for almost a year now. 2.4 tyres on 29mm wide rims. At a recent demo day I rode the same bike with 27+ wheels. My observations from the demo below:

-Rolls slower, definitely took more effort to get up the mountain

-Took more effort(upper body) coming down as well, you have to muscle the bike around more

-The wider tyres do have a bit more grip on loose over hard ground, when you start losing traction it is more controlled/predictable

-Charging downhill and jumping, I felt like the bike more on its own path and I was just hanging on
