Apparently it was, they told a coworker (also doing 170km) as well as my dad (doing 109km) that it was cancelled at the fruit sellers 4 way. Both of them replied saying they still need to get back to their cars. Went over the mats with no issues.

The first halve was my best one yet, second half, not so much. Over all 3rd best time at 5:45 but within 15 minutes of my PR so I am very happy. I don't do this roadie thing very often, but when I do I ride at least 100 miles.  :whistling:

Awesome day out there, thanks to everyone involved and the epic merger that was D-G and E-F.

BTW, I hope that green Fietsa they pulled out of the ditch and the flattened 206 on the trailer was not caused by big bunches pushing them off they road?

Did the 109km Traffic cop and marshals at the big intersection told us the that the race was cancelled.

I then got my lift to pick me up there. There was about 20 other cyclists waiting for the sweeper to come after the Coo and marshal told us the race was cancelled. That was at 11:30am.

Anybody know how the crash victims in H-K (109km) on Windmeul Road are doing.?

Suspect there was a touch of wheels when one went down.

In trying to avoid that, some others sounded like they went down really hard.

Well done to everybody that finished. It was really a tough day. I made a point to go ride in the heat the last couple of weeks and it definitely paid off.

call it off - its too hot. they got your money. they don't give a damm.

Yip, they should have preventative measures in place prior to race day to minimise the effect of extreme weather on the riders ... they knew on Saturday already that the temperature was going to be over 40 degrees in places and should have made a call based on that information instead of having a situation where they cancel a race while some riders are stuck in the middle of nowhere.

The riders also knew that it was going to be hot on the day, how about we take some responsibility for ourselves and not dump everything on race organisers?

Cancelling a race is not an easy call to make, whatever you decide some people will be unhappy. I have experienced warmer days on the bike than today, I think it was the right call to let the race go ahead.

Safety should be put before keeping people happy imo.

I have also experienced warmer days and also finished today without too much trouble but there were quite a number of people out there who took serious strain.

I agree with you that riders should also take responsibility but there are those who are inexperienced and overestimate their ability to endure the heat.

During the Tour Down Under earlier this year the organisers pulled the plug on a much bigger funride that the One tonner the day before the event based on a weather prediction.
