I always wonder why someone would sell "on behalf of someone else". Is it because

a) Their friend does not own a PC/smartphone

b) Friend was born without hands and can't type

c) It's an easy cop-out when the sale goes south

I literally spilled my coffee over the keyboard when I got to to "b" above.

I have tried on numerous occasions to get hold of the guy but with no luck. If it was my personal bike and if I was aware of what the buyer listed then I would either refund or give a portion to replace. however it was not my bike.

p*ss poor.

Sorry Im so late to reply but only saw this thread today, borrowing a laptop from a friend.

Fanie already mentioned on page 1 referring to Rouxtjies comment.

Think this is the single most valid point to all buyers.

It also makes sense buying something from someone who loves cycling, loves his bike, loves to partake in conversations on the hub, loves to waste time browsing classifieds.

Hey guys. I'm posting on behalf of a friend. He says to tell you "That oke's definitely up to something".

No need to reply to this - my friend is a Nigerian prince who is working on a Russian oil rig off the coast of Wakanda. I have no way of getting in contact with him if you take issue with his statement. He told me everything is fine with it. I'm not an expert, so I believed him.

Easy there sailor, I have already paid a deposit, he said there was someone else interested and i couldnt miss the opportunity

I'm not a sailor, but I once was a seaman. But I digress - I'm afraid you've been scammed. I've already had the bike collected. Happy to let it go for R250 more?

I swear to god if slowbee shuts this down before page 20 I am going to have a complete meltdown - we got so close on the Ride Magazine swearing morals debate, and here we seem to be again?

It reached page 20, the topic went from a bad deal to reaching page 20, but whats next? Do we go for mars??

Sorry. My t’s and c’s are that my preferred buyers are on oil rigs buying for their nephews. I am sentimental about family. Your deposit is deemed to be have been forfeited under the Oil Reg Nephew Act.

But, don’t despair : The CPA is your friend!

CPA? Do you scam people as your main line of business, Harryn? DO YOU???

Anyway, thanks for the great deal. A+ seller. Would buy again. Oh, the bitcoin were fake.

Does the CPA cover you when you made the purchase from International waters?

Some of the Stuff People are Selling on the Hub is just Ridiculous and Sometimes Ridiculously Priced. Better to go to a Shop and see what you buying. I've never yet seen a sweet deal on the Hub Oh yes I did once it was a pair of Saints Pedals for R250.(almost new).

I must be honest, this type of behavior is alarming to say the least but, one has to bear in mind that in the world we live in scammers and con artists are no longer the minority. It's almost social accepted that this is just the way it is which is a sad state of affairs.

That being said, I have bought and sold quite few things on the Hub and I've always sold for lower than what you can buy for in the shop (makes sense 2nd hand - even when virtually new). I recently bought a 1x10 XT Groupo here and man what value for money.

Not everyone is a crook but, with budgets being what the are and the government (wives) limiting our spending we have to be super careful. If ever I'd need to buy a bike in another province I'd get the guy to take it to a reputable LBS to have it checked or find a fellow (well known) Hubber to go check in out.

The issue has been resolved.

Joe contacted me and offered to reimburse me for my expenses, we agreed to an amount.

I sent him my banking details and the matter has been resolved. Thanks Joe for the help and after our chat over the phone I am confident that our next dealing will be positive. As you said, you have learnt a lesson and I myself have also learnt a lesson.

I haven't read the last 5 pgs since you posted this, so forgive me if this has been mentioned.

Would he have made this arrangement if you hadn't posted this. I doubt.

Once again the power of the Hub prevails
