my other thinking behind charging hard on the first day is

a)burning matches

b)not taking advantage of the drafting to RV1 opportunity

c)potentially being in the lead the entire race

the last one is just a mental thing, if you can handle it. A race this sort of length, with this amount of waterpoints, I'd rather be the guy 30mins behind for 500km.

RB's usual MO is to go hard\attack & see who responds and can come with, he will then work together with that person, if not he'll just tempo on his own.

Let's just do the race next year and we can look at the bikes all day and night and day and night and day and night...

I need to let my kids get a bit older first. This race would require a lot of training and I don't have that sort of time at the moment. I keep telling my wife I want to do it, she hasn't said no so I am setting a goal of a 2020 entry. I am busy with the lack of sleep training in a big way so by then I should have that side of things sorted  .

Hopefully I can do it next year but with my luck it will be like 2 years ago again, strong head winds

I see the FAQ states some routes are on private property, will these be eg single track riding?

Yes, and apparently a fair amount of fence hopping and gate open & closing.

Ramses is slowly opening the gap to Marco again. When they left Loxton (RV3) the gap was 30min, It's now about 50min.

Deon Guy is resting at Loxton, so Mike Woolnough may move up to 6th if he does not rest there too.

The Ramses train has left the station at pace!

I wonder who of the riders are actually following live tracking while they are racing? I do understand that network coverage is limited outside of the towns but when they get there it would be good to check how far back your competitors are.

There is an unbelievable tailwind from Loxton. Pumping! Conditions about as good as they can get. c6a598157d653beaca8a14ff0dbe9814.jpg379614aca4b2e382bb14818799f26ffc.jpg

Dion forgot to sign out, or he's chilling there.

his tracker hasn't moved, but might be a decent option to rest if its hot

actually there is very little single track. Most of these private farms are dual track. But rugged!
