I have an 11-42 sunrace cassette, around 800

Check rapide for narrow wide ring of your choice. You should be able to use your crank even tho your link is broken.

Clutch derailer is nice to have, and without one, you will get chainsuck, but I haven't had a dropped chain yet and haven't got a clutch.

Play around, everything will be able to be returned to original anyway..

Hi guys. Just wanted to ask someone's opinion on what it would cost to upgrade to a 1x system with the 2x Shimano Slx system that i have now. Will i just have to buy a new chainring or will i have to buy a whole new crankset. The crankset that i havr looks like this https://www.bikehub.co.za/index.php?app=forums&module=post&section=post&do=new_post&f=12#

well basically just A chainring which can be had for R499

You DON'T need a Wide range cassette its just nice to have

My understanding is you currently have Shimano SLX 2x11? If so, all you need to do is remove the front deraillieur and chainrings and install a 1x specific chainring. No need to replace the crankset. You can use spacers to get the right chainline (available for R30 a set from Rapide).

You can also buy a chainring from Rapide. Will cost you around R500 all in.

If you have a 10spd system, them you'll need an 11spd upgrade kit.

If you have 11spd, then just a new cassette and chainring, Sommer gooi in a Chain as well.

1x system is lekker with a wide range cassette.

I'd get an 11-46 sunrace cassette, or something like that.

I also thought about it and decided to stick with 2x11. There is very little to almost no weight difference. The benefit of weight vs limiting the range is not worth it.

Rather buy a full XT 2x11 drivetrain (Excl brakes) from CRC. They currently have a special. Will cost you around R5k to your door.

Honestly going from 2x to 1x really shouldn't make that much difference but when I did it was a real game changer. I've no real idea why, I couldn't really explain it but it was just awesome.

There are a good amount of 1x11 kits coming up as people head for 12sp Eagle and after black Friday.

I'd say you could get everything sorted for less than R3k. There are quite a few upgrade kits with specials at the moment but also look in the classifieds.

Just a chain ring should do the job. Check on Rapide.

If you running 2x10 and want more range, Shimano Deore has a 10spd cassette 11-42 that go for about R600. I'm running one on my Jeffsy with a 32T front ring and its got just enough for the top end. No need for the full 1x11 upgrade kit.
