Markthecycletourist Posted December 24, 2018 Share I was asking advice last month about cycling the N2 through KZN to Swaziland. I ended up doing it and it's actually quite a good route : http://splashrollstumble.com/cycling-africa-days-1-5-south-africa/ eddy, Kranswurm and Sepia

BMXER Posted December 25, 2018 Share Illegal, but I did it for years.Cycling the n2 is probably 100% safer than the 103. Cops regularly wave as they pass, never had any issues. The verge from Mtunzini to Richards bay is narrow and the most stressful part, theron it's fine. Of course your life insurance will not pay as it is illegal..... Mamil Posted December 25, 2018 Share A feature of life in ZA ... something is illegal but safer or better or easier or more sensible and everyone makes up their own mind on where to draw the line. It's like watching traffic in India... a mess... many casualties but most people get where they're going.

brad890 Posted December 25, 2018 Share To all considering this route. I would strongly recommend against it. I live in that part of the world and the N2 between Empangeni and Pongola is not cycle friendly. The yellow line may be large but taxis and coal trucks and traffic in general treat it as a second lane with zero consideration for pedestrians and cyclists. Tatt Posted December 25, 2018 Share Your assumptions are not correct. Having lived in the area for many years, I know my assumptions are 100% correct, and have seen how people drive on this road.. This is Darwin Award territory if you ride bikes on this road...

This is Darwin Award territory if you ride bikes on this road... You assumed it was illegal. Not everything that is stupid is illegal and not every thing illegal is stupid. There are stretches of our N-road network where cycling is not prohibited which does not make it sensible albeit legal.
