I just picked this up on IOL. Anyone know if she is okay? I pray she makes a full recovery.

On Sunday, a 36-year-old female sustained moderate injuries in a mountain biking incident on a trail in Durbanville. ER24 and Metro Rescue transported the woman from where she fell, to a landing zone where she was airlifted with a medical helicopter to Tygerberg hospital for further medical care.

Hope the lady is okay, and recovers fully.

LOTS of first timers on the trails !!

We have been spending a lot of time at Bloemendal .... and with Maritz enjoying B-Fever I have encountered many first timers asking route information.

The trails are in "decent nick" ... which easily leads to faster speeds ... and then you encounter some bad spots .... SO EASY to get it wrong !!

It was at Hoogekraal. I could only get reports from riders as they came down.

The lady apparently fell on The Gorge and compressed her neck. She appeared to be fine, but her condition deteriorated quickly after and she had to be airlifted out.

I hope she is alright and recovers quickly.

Thanks for the feedback Staggreen. The gorge is a piece of trail best avoided if one does not have the required skills. That's where Joel Stransky had his crash too. Easy to misjudge those jumps, and that drop/roll-over requires some finess to negotiate successfully.

I hope the lady makes a full recovery.

Not the first time this happend at Hoogekraal

Don't I know that myself...broken arm and concussion earned there myself.

The new skills park has gone a long way to making me more comfortable on the trails. Thanks for that Patrick and your Gnomes.

On Saterday ER24 picked up another rider at Hoogekraal not sure how bad it was as the medics didn't really look worried or in a hurry.

Ride within your limits if you are unsure walk it first but I think lots of people take friends on trails that's to advanced for them something that might be easy to someone could be difficult or scary to someone else.

Not saying this was the case with either incidents just something I have noticed.

Guys got to get skills, but to do that you got to go ride proper MTB trails, of which there are so few these days.

Hope they don't dumb down the trails any more after these incidents, they are already .... wait it is not Friday yet.

I agree re skills acquisition.

This could also be done at a skills park, such as provided for at Hoogekraal, which builds up from absolute beginner to potential pinner progressively. Else one can also pay for some skills coaching. But to attempt a technical trail blindly in the hope of gaining skills there, is like the Afrikaans saying goes, "mosterd na die maal"...

The challenge with trails like the gorge is that the trail is smooth and wide so riders pick up excess speed and before they know it, they're airborne and we all know the story from there.

Do hubbers think we should mark sections of trail as high accident zones?

No

I you ride fast on a trail you don't know, you're a dumb ass and asking for trouble

It’ll will be valuable, I’m sure ????????

Terrible to hear these eina incidents.

Dropping speed right right down before the drop-off is key

I treat that drop-off more like a roll-over at crawling speed during the entry phase. The exit on the other hand is at rocket ship speed.
