Just out of the blue - any chance you can get some acknowledgement that the company owes you the rest of the salary? At least become a creditor.

Thanks, I will follow up with HR to get things in writing.

I saw this quote this morning in a newspaper article about the Trump shutdown. Thought it is quite apt here:

Asked how he went bankrupt, a character in Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises answers: “Gradually and then suddenly.”

Edit: Best of luck! Similar thing happened to me 20 years ago and it sent my career in a different direction. Best thing that could have happened to me.

This brings back some bad memories  .... sitting here in Jhb over the holiday period, having to cancel trips all whilst staff have taken their annual leave and generally got paid on time, 30 Salaries at one stage,... sometimes we did have to make two installments but did square up all dues.

IMO the general business climate here is not conducive to employing people, the odds are stacked in favor of the employees and its hard if not impossible to make honest money. So glad those days are over (I am the only employee now)

Count yourself lucky you have a job and a regular salary..Cash flow is very tight for most companies.

I really hope the company does not go bump but if it should, then employees who have not been paid do become creditors of that business. Unfortunately the payout is whatever is agreed for all creditors so it could be x cents to the Rand of what you are owed. Also it would be in the same time line and process which is not usually very quick.

Had a chat with the CFO this morning, he said that he doesn't have a clue what is going on, the owners aren't talking to him about where they are going to get the money for January salaries, let alone to fund operations going forward.

If the CFO is being left out of the picture.........

Apparently employees are preferential creditors and get paid before anyone else, that's if the liquidator does their job properly.

That's correct SARS and employees are preferential creditors, unfortunately there are deemed limits on what can be claimed by an employee.
