Sound travels much further at that time of the morning, They probably chose it on purpose to show off............

Might be to land in Russia at night time. Less conspicuous if you fly over your neighbors at night than during the day as well, seeing that Russia is so friendly with everyone around them

Man, I still recall many, many years ago when they were at Waterkloof. The noise that thing made was just unbelievable.

And also, when we walked up (I must have been like 10 at the time), this American in a full on Texan accent looked at me and said, "It's a B1-B, it's bohmer". Loved it.

Yip.  Was also at that airshow.  Just not that young  ^_^.  They also took off the Sunday morning very early (think it was 05:00 in the morning) and flew straight north over our house.  Lets just say I was very much aware of them passing over.

Propably better to take off early morning when the minimum temperatures are at its lowest.  But if I understand you guys correctly they took off from ORT?  That IL-76 that the Air force or whoever charters often normally takes off very early morning from Waterkloof AFB as it is fully loaded due to the cool air being better to take off in.

ORT has one of the longer runways in the world.  So not sure what the reason was for the early departure.  Maybe you're right and was just to show off  ^_^

OR Tambo international apologized on twitter for the unusual jet noise on Saturday

for giving all aviation fans a hard on? Fudge how many time do we in SA and the public het to see craft like these here?

I would give my nuts and prostate to just get near to one.

We stay pretty close to Waterkloof.

On Friday early afternoon I spoke to my wife on the phone and there was a massive sound as a plane went over the house.

Anyway that I can check what it was?

Why did they hop over to ORT to take off from there?  Could they not have just have taken off from Waterkloof.  I suspect it would be a matter they will not be able to take of from Waterkloof fully fueled.  Runway not long enough would be my guess.  (Shhh.  The Yanks can do it though  :whistling: )

Wonder if it was worse than the US B1-B.

The B1-Bs were based in Abilene Texas at Dyess AFB in 1986 . The 9th and 28th Bomber Squadrons. They often flew over the school I attended at the time (Wylie High), often during football practice.

An Air Force colonel had arranged for me to have a flight in the cockpit of a B1-B, but it was cancelled at the last minute due to the US raid into Libya (Operation El Dorado Canyon). All military base access was restricted after that.

I always regretted the missed opportunity.

Edit: Trump was already a twat in 1986.
