When we were building the airbase in the bush in Botswana, the Main Contractor had to supply an old plane as part of the commando training facility. They bought an old 707 in Nairobi.Hired some engines and a pilot and flew the thing to the airbase. The consultants loaded it full of crates of Tusker and White Cap beer and when it arrived we had a moerova party.

I recall my pa driving past that Vickers Viking when I was a laaitie of maybe 5 - 6 y.o. I also so badly wanted to go investigate, but Pa was adamant it wasn't gonna happen. Living in the Garden Route at the time also did not help matters much, seeing as back then George was literally a one-horse town and only saw planes when P.W. Botha came to his house in Wilderness. This just brought back some memories. Thanks LWB.

The one article mentions Trek Airways.... my old man used to work for them as a mechanic and flight engineer. He also worked for a crowd called Tropic Air that flew an Avro York ( 4 engined Plane similar to the Avro Lancaster Bomber) from Joburg to London in the early 50‘s before jets were used.

No gps and the trip took 3 - 4 days

had a team building last week.

Our CEO graciously offered to take us all on a flip from Morgans bay up the Wild coast to Mazeppa and back.

The day before I ask all sort of questions (fsim an'all you know). Once airborne and cruising, he hands me the sticks (trim etc was handled by him). Last time I was that nervous my wife was giving birth. I just kept telling myself make small movements (as is the fsim way), but dammit what and experience.
